Overview

In accordance with standardized protocols, is responsible for providing primary care to the clinic pediatrics client's age birth to 18 years of age. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management.

Responsibilities

• Conducts interviews with patient and/or family, records medical histories, performs periodic physical examinations, evaluates patient behaviors and explores patient's health needs
• Performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets results
• Develops and implements long and short range treatment plans
• Writes transmittal orders for medications
• Initiates and follow up on consultations
• Demonstrates competence in the care of infant, pediatric and adolescent patients relative to determining each patient's age-related and other physical, psycho-social and cultural needs and carrying out patient care activities
• Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updates charts, changes orders when appropriate and notifies Pediatric Clinical Director when necessary
• Counsels patients and families as to preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems and use of prescribed treatment and drugs
• Encourages continuity of care and case management
• Participates in the development of clinical policy and procedures
• Assists clinics in identification of issues and opportunities to improve efficiency or quality of care provided
• Monitors patient workflow and works with the Practice Manager to improve patient access and satisfaction, as well as provider/staff efficiency and effectiveness

Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing with a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner focus. Certification and licensure in the State of Nevada. Preferred: 2-3 years minimum experience in Pediatric Nursing.
