Overview

Medical Behavioral Hospital, a member of the NeuroPsychiatric Hospital family located in Mishawaka, IN, is looking for an Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) to serve our patients and hospital leadership team. Under the direction of The Director of Nursing, the Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) will serve as a member of the hospital’s management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with particular reference to the role, functions, and operations of the hospital’s nursing services. The ADON is an advocate for patient care, and helps to manage nurse team members, resources, and fiscal outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Assists with managing, directing, and supervising the nursing department. 
  • Ensures the attainment of hospital objectives thorough the selection, development, motivation, and evaluation of hospital personnel for those departments directly supervised through coordination with the Human Resource Department
  • Provides for proper training, education, orientations for employees and self, maintains records, documentation of all records as directed by hospital and medical staff policy and procedure, and federal and state requirements.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of new employee orientation.
  • Ensures that all directly supervised personnel meet annual in-service requirements as established by hospital and medical staff policy and procedure, and federal and state requirements.
  • Promotes health care services that are produced in a cost-effective manner while maintaining the hospital’s quality standards and following the mission and values established by administration.
  • Encourages the integration of the hospital within the community by using effective communication and public relations program. Uses a self directed approach for self assessment and development.
  • Consistently demonstrates professionalism with all internal and external customers as evidenced by positive customer and peer feedback.
  • Communicates effectively with all staff and patients as evidenced by the establishment and maintenance of productive working relationships.
  • Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct.
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their job.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associates Degree; Bachelor's (BSN) degree preferred
  • Licensure: Must have a valid RN license in the state of IN.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an RN or LPN required; previous experience in mental, behavioral, or psychiatric health preferred
  • Previous managerial experience in an acute and/or psychiatric setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in infection control, risk, process improvement (PI), quality control, or nurse education a plus!
  • Demonstrable communication skills with multiple levels within the hospitals
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and delegate key tasks

NPH is a system of acute, inpatient hospitals with an innovative approach to neuropsychiatric care for the geriatric and adult population. Unlike hospitals who are solely psychiatric-based, NPH utilizes an interdisciplinary team of psychiatri...sts, psychologists, neurologists and medical doctors. This team works collaboratively to evaluate chronic behavioral and emotional disorders that may have a psychiatric, neurological or medical pathogenesis. This model was borne out of the desire to provide the most comprehensive care possible to adult and geriatric patients with compromised cognitive or behavioral statuses who are also often medically and/or neurologically compromised. Many of our patients have been in and out of other acute settings, being continually treated for the symptomatology without a thorough understanding of the etiology. This population can experience metabolic changes, synergistic reactions due to polypharmacy, and have multiple underlying medical diagnoses that cause and/or exacerbate cognitive and behavioral issues. It is for that reason that NPH is intentionally thorough with each patient, often requiring more intensive and specialized services and greater time to reconstitute than seen in typical acute care settings.
