Solar Technician/ Site Surveyor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned)

• Be able to effectively and professionally communicate with customers during the initial face to face greeting and/or on the phone 
• Be able to effectively and professionally communicate with a centralized scheduling team 
• Have the ability to follow instructions given by both a centralized scheduling team as well as a centralized permitting department
• Conduct a physical site survey using a variety of company provided tools and equipment including measuring devices, hand tools, ladders, personal protective equipment, etc. 
• Document the project site with photos using a smartphone application 

• Fill out, by hand, paper site surveying sheets needed by the Nerd Power Engineering Department to produce permit-ready documents, uploading data to the Nerd Power project management system. 
• Perform site survey activities independently. 
• Perform, independently attend field inspections and follow the instructions of inspectors both in person as well as through video chat on a smartphone
• Perform/ Commission solar systems and verify production
• Attend mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methodology, and safety 

• Be able to learn, diagnose, and fix as issues arise
• Supply your own basic tools for the job

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum requirements - The least amount of skills and training candidates must have to do a specific job. Candidates not meeting these requirements will not be hired for this position. 

• Basic knowledge of residential electrical and structural systems 
• Basic knowledge of SolarEdge inverters is a plus
• Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen 
• Regular, reliable and predictable attendance required 

• High School or Trade School degree in a discipline related to construction or building sciences 
• Must be able to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more) in addition to climbing ladders and working in high places. 
• Valid Driver’s license 
• Ability to travel between job sites 
• Ability to organize and maintain paper documents and electronic photos and files 

• Excellent written communication skills are required in order to prepare survey and permit documents 
• Excellent customer service skills required 
• Proficiency with smartphone applications 
• Basic computer skills including the ability to copy files and communicate via email 

Preferred requirements 

• OSHA 10 Certification 
• An understanding of NEC codes with emphasis on residential PV installations 
• Excellent customer service skills in addition to solid verbal and written communication skills
