Nelson Auto, a family owned and operated franchise dealership in Grand Forks, North Dakota is looking for the ideal candidate to fill an opening for a Financial Controller. We have succeeded in business for over 30 years with a focus on taking excessive care or our customers and our staff.

The ideal candidate will need to have a hands on and interactive management style as they work directly with the owners and the senior management team on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in public, or private accounting, a strong interest in financial planning and analysis and a desire to lead a team. Previous auto dealership experience is not required but preferred.

Job Description

Controller is responsible for financial and fiscal management aspects of company operations. Provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the company.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the Controller/CFO position at our automotive group include but are not limited to:

• Lead office staff team
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Prepares a complete financial statement monthly according to dealership and OEM guidelines.
• Coordinate with outside accounting firm for annual review/audit requirements
• Assist in preparation of annual budgets.
• Ensures that all manufacturer accounts including warranty claims, rebates, parts inventory, and co-op advertising accounts are current and accurate.
• Oversee or perform tasks to ensure that financial functions are reconciled monthly including (but not limited to): cash, accounts receivables, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payables, manufacturer statements, payroll administration, vehicle deal commissioning, inter-company accounts.
• Interprets the financial statement and the daily operating (DOC) regularly and informs dealer principal of developing trends.
• Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
• Meeting with department heads regularly to go over business matters and develop plans to increase profitability.
• Proactively manage and safeguard company assets.

Job Requirements

Our Automotive Group is looking for the following requirements in the ideal candidate to be met.

• More than five years of Private or Public Accounting Experience.
• Demonstrates the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Experience in automotive industry preferred but not required.
• CPA certification preferred, not required.

Additional Requirements

• Strong leadership, high character, strong work ethic.
• Take immediate action to overcome obstacles.
• Advanced level knowledge with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word, and is expected to familiarize themselves with additional accounting software programs if necessary.
