Summary: Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. • Compares identifying information and counts, weights, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.• Create bill of lading. • Maintain, update, and process orders for shipment by assigning orders, printing pick list, and creating bill of lading.• Determines method of shipment.• Schedules freight and files freight claims accordingly.• Run scheduling report and provide to management as requested.• Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.• Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.• Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. (Can remove, receiving does this)• Routes items to departments.• Approves invoices for incoming shipments. (Can remove)• Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.• Maintains inventory of shipping materials, supplies, and dollars. (Can remove)• Operates forklift or uses hand truck to load/unload shipments to and from trucks.• Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.• Math Ability:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.• Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Order processing systems.Education/Experience:• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
