ABOUT THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THE CERTIFICATION OF CRANE OPERATORS (CCO):

CCO was formed in January 1995 as a non-profit organization with a mission to develop effective performance standards; provide fair, valid, and reliable assessments; act as an industry resource; and be the leader in providing certifications for those who work in and around load handling equipment. CCO is headquartered in Fairfax, VA, and maintains offices in Murray, UT and Palm Harbor, FL.

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of Corporate Counsel and the General Counsel, the successful candidate will assist and provide a range of legal and administrative support to resolve routine legal and related issues. The position involves administrative support to in-house counsel while also assisting attorneys in preparing complex documents and tracking documents. Creates/transcribes records of highly sensitive meetings and conversations, prepares correspondence, annotates documents and files, and arranges related appointments, calendars, and schedules. Manages policies and procedures for key processes including program integrity, ethics and discipline matters, administrative appeals, and requests for testing accommodations. Provides support as lead staff member assisting two committees comprised of outside subject matter experts. This position requires discretion, judgement, tact, and poise, as well as a broad range of skills relating to the investigation and management of candidate disciplinary and test integrity matters.

This position includes the opportunity to obtain paralegal training and certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Support and coordinate disciplinary & test integrity matters/investigations

  • Use discretion and independent judgement to conduct extensive fact-gathering interviews related to program integrity matters involving certificants, testing personnel, and other program participants
  • Draft correspondence regarding program integrity matters and violations of operating policies 
  • Draft reports relating to disciplinary & program integrity matters
  • Provide staff support to ethics & discipline and any applicable appeal bodies 
  • Prepare presentations regarding disciplinary & program integrity matters
  • Coordinate with committee of outside subject matter experts regarding disciplinary & test integrity matters
  • Manage internal tracking of disciplinary & test integrity matters

B. Support, process, and coordinate applications for testing accommodations

  • Understand the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal laws and regulations regarding testing accommodations
  • Review, analyze, and process applications for testing accommodations
  • Draft correspondence regarding testing accommodation applications
  • Work with outside expert consultants
  • Prepare presentations regarding testing accommodations
  • Manage internal tracking of testing accommodations

C. Support and coordinate administrative appeals

  • Draft correspondence regarding administrative appeal requests
  • Draft reports relating to administrative appeal requests
  • Prepare presentations relating to administrative appeal requests
  • Coordinate with committee of outside subject matter experts regarding administrative appeals
  • Manage internal tracking of administrative appeal requests

D. Other duties as appropriate and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and computer-based skills, e.g. experience with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). 
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding attitude, sincere personality, and passion for work. 
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills, with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to accomplish CCO’s goals and objectives. 
  • Self-starter, able to multi-task with an attention to detail, and possessing the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a great sense of professionalism in interpersonal interactions, in both attire and mindset. 

Physical Requirements:

  • This is largely a desk-bound position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs. Requires the ability occasionally to travel locally, regionally and nationally.

Expected Work Hours:

  • Regular days/hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. 
  • Full-time position, with a salary commensurate with experience, education, and market rates, plus an exceptional benefits program.
  • Possibility of flexible remote work.
