Nationwide Children Hospital is Hiring an Orthodontic Dental Assistant Near Columbus, OH

Overview

The Orthodontic Assistant provides chair side support to the Doctor, performing routine orthodontic procedures and tasks including:

  • Diagnostic photos, intraoral scans (i-Tero), x-rays
  • Document clinical notes in electronic record (Dolphin & Epic)
  • Educate patients on home care and demonstrates oral hygiene instructions
  • Complete other tasks related to patient care as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Performs multiple daily chair side procedures. Provides synopsis of patient status and any change or problems experienced by the patient and communicates any pertinent patient information to Provider.
  • Documents thorough health history. Takes diagnostic intraoral and extraoral photographs and catalogues as appropriate. Expose oral radiographs using the MiPACS computer system (CBCT, pans, PAs, etc.).
  • Provides patient with instruction for home care and demonstrates oral hygiene instructions.
  • Takes alginate impressions, pours diagnostic quality models and trim stone models. Mixes stone/plaster in a Whip Mix, Pouring and trimming study models.
  • Performs infection control after every patient use, keeps orthodontic supplies inventoried and stocked and monitors for outdated supplied and medications. Maintains clean working areas; both in the operatories and the laboratory. Sterilizes and inspects equipment to ensure cleanliness and functionality.
  • Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers by applying best practices and standard operating procedures. Performs moderately complex administrative duties related to patient care and follow-up.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licensure:

  • Licensed Dental Radiographer with the State of Ohio required.

Certifications:

  • Licensed Dental Radiographer with the State of Ohio
  • CPR certified

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to relate effectively with patients and families.
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 40 – 70 words per minute.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as Epic, Dolphin, Ortho Analyzer and iTero Scanner preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory duties, such as pouring/trimming models.
  • Working knowledge of billing, authorizations, scheduling and maintain appropriate infection control.
  • Ability to fabricate appliances, including bending wires preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous Orthodontic experience required.
  • Experience in a pediatric environment and/ or working with clefts or special needs preferred.
  • Orthodontic Assisting: 1 year (Required)
