The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for all purchase order activity relative to direct material purchases from National Material’s approved sources. This includes entering, validating, confirming, and updating of order acknowledgements of all direct material purchase orders and keeping designated team members informed of any pertinent changes. Duties and Responsibilities:· Monitor AX computer system/personalized screens for new purchase orders in que.· Review specifications with quality and inside sales as required to ensure accuracy and clarity.· Enter purchase order and confirm with producing supplier.· Run Purchase Order Proforma in AX to ensure accuracy.· Update the ERP System with confirmed dates and continue to maintain accurate confirmation dates by updating the system with any changes.· Gather and distribute supplier status updates to appropriate team members daily.· Expediate supplier orders as required.· Receive and attach bill of lading and test reports to the purchase order in the AX.· Follow order to completion including the closing of purchase orders.· Develop and maintain strong communications with both suppliers and internal team members.· Work close with supply chain to utilize current inventory in place of purchasing new.· Taking a lead role to determine obsolete inventory and resell as required depending on market conditions.· Maintain the spot buy tracking share point system. Education and Experience:· Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field of study desired.· Prior experience purchasing steel from other steel service centers/suppliers, preferred.· Working knowledge of the Steel Industry (ex. Carbon Steel, Aluminum, etc.) preferred.· Prior experience working in an ERP environment (ex. Microsoft AX, SAP, etc.) preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word & Outlook. · Advanced Excel skills required (ex. Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, etc.)· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal· Analytical & detail oriented.· Ability to thrive in a fast paced, collaborative environment.· Ability to travel 50%. or more.
