Description

Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant

Department: Administration

Reports to: Controller

Flsa Status: Exempt

General Description of Position:Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing/conducting various analysis and oversight of many projects.

Primary Job Functions:

  1. Reconciles assigned General Ledger accounts on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  2. Prepares and assists in annual budget processing and monthly review with latest budget estimates projected.
  3. Assists Controller with analysis of income statements, which includes and is not limited to, detailed revenue and salary analysis and projections.
  4. Performs back-up duties for journal entries, as needed.
  5. Updates and reconciles fixed assets for each company assigned.
  6. Meets deadlines as required by accounting office for month-end and year-end processing.
  7. Assists and prepares needed documents for year-end audit.
  8. Ensures that Agency Policies and procedures are adhered to and that Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are followed.
  9. Uses technology for the completion of specified job duties, including, but not limited to spreadsheet, accounting, database(s) and word processing.
  10. Attends work regularly according to assigned work schedule and in accordance with Agency policy.
  11. Attends and participates in In-Service training, staff meetings and other activities to facilitate professional development.
  12. Works collaboratively with others including all staff, supervisors, administrators, co-workers, individuals served, community professionals, customers, vendors, and the public.
  13. Follows instructions and abides by Agency policies and procedures.
  14. Contributes to a work atmosphere in a manner that is positive, enthusiastic, respectful and courteous.
  15. Assists with implementing new software, accounting processing procedures, which will include training and assisting others of the finance team.
  16. Assumes other duties, responsibilities and special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Advanced Excel Skills.
  • Strong Analysis skills and understanding of benchmarking data
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Strong understanding of federal, state and local tax regulations

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Qualifications


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or business-related subject.
  • Minimum five years accounting such as general ledger reconciliation and financial income statement analysis.
  • Three years of experience working with spreadsheets, imports and exports with various software programs and automated ledgers.
  • Bondable as defined by the insurance policy in effect at the time of hire.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience with computer-based financial accounting systems; Dynamics GP preferred.
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of activities and functions simultaneously.
  • High degree of attention to detail and trustworthiness.

Other Qualifications:

  • Collaborative work style.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Writing communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract concrete variables.

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily sedentary requiring use of hands and arms for reaching and typing.
  • Limited walking and standing.
  • Minimal lifting up to 15 lbs. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor office environment. Moderate noise, business office with computers and printers, light traffic.
