NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ATTORNEYS GENERAL is Hiring a Communications Manager Near Washington, DC

We are looking for a Communications Manager to join our team.

The Job Brief: 

The communications manager supports the work of the NAAG chief communication officer (CCO). She/he will manage various communications projects, at times overseeing the work of the communications coordinator and working with outside vendors. The communications manager must possess strong organizational skills and pay close attention to detail with the ability to multi-task, work under deadline pressure, and adapt quickly to changing work priorities. Excellent computer skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, and a personable demeanor with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy are essential. Overtime and some travel may be required.

The Communications Manager reports to the Chief Communications Officer.

A Typical Day May Look Like This: 

Communications Project Management
  • Develop and edit content for NAAG and NAGTRI, including website content, publications, videos, research, fact sheets, etc.
  • Manage and implement communications and marketing projects related to NAAG meetings and NAGTRI trainings, including creating marketing campaigns, managing the announcement calendar, and working with the Director, Design, Production and New Media to create all supporting visuals;
  • Develop and produce videos and other multimedia projects;
  • Partner with the Director, Design, Production and New Media on publication development;
  • Other tasks as assigned, based on the needs of the Association.
Website Content Management
  • Manage and update content on the NAAG website, following best practices for SEO;
  • Serve as a liaison to other NAAG staff on website requests;
  • Manage the editorial calendar for the AG Journal.
PIO Support
  • Serve as a NAAG staff liaison with the Public Information Officers (PIOs)/Communications Directors in state and territory AG offices.
Media Relations
  • Manage day-to-day media relations, in coordination with the NAAG PR firm, including handling media requests, writing media materials, and fulfilling publication/information requests from AG staff and general public;
  • Create and update media lists;
  • Serve as onsite media contact for NAAG meetings.
Social Media
  • Manage NAAG’s social media, including Twitter, Facebook page, and LinkedIn;
  • Develop social media graphics, animations, and video for NAAG campaigns, and templates to share with Public Information Officers (PIOs)/Communications Directors in state and territory AG offices.

Is This You?

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, media studies, or a related area of study.
  • Approximately 3-5 years of post-graduate professional work in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field. 
  • Superior writing and editing skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of AP Style and Microsoft Office (Work, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience with WordPress or other CMS tools.
  • Ability to think and work independently.
  • Exercise a high level of professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Proven ability to meet critical project deadlines keep timelines and tasks organized..
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and other design tools. 
  • Experience with email marketing platforms, such as Informz.

Location:

The Communications Manager position is eligible for some remote work. This position requires some/moderate/extensive travel (domestic and international). NAAG is headquartered in Washington, D.C. 

Terrific Total Compensation Package:

  • Salary range $50,000-$56,000 and is commensurate with experience and budget availability. 
  • NAAG offers a generous benefits package which includes paid time off, health, dental, vision, life/disability, long-term care, and 401k retirement plan.
