BASIC FUNCTION

Under general supervision, to observeand control the behavior of students and non-students; to provide for thesecurity and protection of students, personal property and equipment on aschool campus; to maintain records and reports; and to perform related work asrequired.

Positions in this class are assignedduties related to the control of student and non-student behavior on a highschool campus. Incumbents use judgmentin the application of laws, District policies and school regulations to eachsituation as it arises. Successfulperformance in this class requires the incumbent to be able to establishrapport and gain the respect of students and staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Observes and controls student behaviorin non-classroom activities occurring before, during and after school hours andincluding extracurricular activities by patrolling a school campus; makesrecommendations regarding campus security and safety; directs and controlstraffic on and around the school campus;

Instructs students and non-students inproper and lawful campus behavior; identifies and controls presence ofunauthorized non-student on campus; observes and provides for control of crowdsduring bus boarding and extracurricular activities;

During situations of major disorder,assumes leadership role to maintain campus order and safety; writes reports oncampus incidents for District and law schools, law enforcement agencies andother groups to give or obtain information related to student attendance orbehavior; reports damage to school property;

OTHER DUTIES:

Performs related duties similar to theabove in scope and function as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Laws of arrest, search and seizure andevidence;

Penal Code sections related to theorderly conduct of school;

Group dynamics related to adolescents;

District rules, regulations andpolicies related to student behavior;

Appropriate safety precautions andprocedures.

ABILITY TO:

Control the behavior and activities ofstudents in a wide variety of situations;

Recognize illegal and unsafe weaponsand controlled substances;

Write concise and descriptive reports;

Communicate effectively;

Operate a vehicle observing legal anddefensive driving practices;

Understand and carry out oral andwritten instructions;

Establish and maintain effectiverelationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training, educationand experience which demonstrates and ability to perform the duties of theposition. A typical qualifying entrancebackground is recent responsible experience in security work, law enforcementor in working with and controlling individual and group behavior;

or

Experience at or equivalent to thelevel of Campus Aide in the Moorpark Unified School District, wherein the incumbent has acquired theknowledge and abilities listed above.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid and appropriateCalifornia Drivers License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent is required to work outsidewithout effective protection from weather.

Prolonged periods of standing andwalking are required.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.
