Multnomah Athletic Club is Hiring a Pastry Cook Near Portland, OR

Job Summary: P.M. Pastry cooks are responsible for the daily preparation of high quality pastries and desserts in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner. Pastry cooks work in the pastry department in the kitchen as scheduled by the Executive Chef or Pastry Chef and execute all related duties of that station. Essential Job Functions: Prepares and fabricates items for use in the kitchen according to established recipes and procedures. Stores product as received and rotates stock according to established procedures. Maintains coolers and storage areas and ensures cleanliness, sanitation and organization of all areas. Keeps workstation clean, sanitary and orderly in accordance with health department regulations. Prepares all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner. Follows recipes, portion controls and presentation specifications as established by the Pastry Chef. Restocks all items as needed throughout shift. Prepares dishes for members and guests with food allergies and intolerances. Works at an efficient and consistent pace. Complies with all Club safety policies and procedures demonstrating safe work practices. Identifies and reports unsafe or hazardous work conditions. Reports all workplace injuries and illnesses to supervisor. Promotes the MAC code of conduct in club activities and demonstrates the importance of providing quality service to members. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secondary Functions: Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors. Assists in the dish room during times of high volume. Assists in the kitchen with plating. Participates in all club related training classes. Essential Tools, Equipment, Vehicles, and/or Machinery: Essential job function requires the use of all kitchen equipment including knives, slicers, chopper, mixer, deep fryer, steam kettles, ovens and grills. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Must be willing and able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. The essential job functions require considerable walking, standing for long periods of time on a hard surface, bending, pushing, pulling, carrying and lifting up to 55 lbs regularly unassisted and the stamina to maintain effectiveness for long and busy shifts. This position spends 100% of the time standing. Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat and water. Must be able to speak, read and understand cooking directions (e.g. order tickets, recipes, etc.). Must be able to hear with 100% accuracy with correction. Must be able to see 20/20 vision with correction. Qualifications: One year of pastry experience in a similar environment. Possession of valid food-handler’s permit. Understanding of professional baking, knife handling skills, piping bag skills, and chocolate tempering. Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures. Ability to work the pastry station successfully. Ability to take direction and work in a team environment. Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal form. Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers. Ability to perform the essential job functions. Ability to work independently. COVID-19 considerations: Your health and safety are a top priority at the MAC. Additionally, all members, guests & staff are required to wear face masks and to maintain appropriate physical distancing where possible. Beginning October 1, 2021, all MAC employees must be fully vaccinated or have been approved for a legal exception. Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks following receiving the second dose of a two-dose or one dose of a single-dose COVID-19 vaccination. Job offers are contingent on providing proof of vaccination or securing a documented and approved medical or religious exception.
