SUMMARY

The Engineering Test Technician role performs engineering evaluation, design validation and process verification testing on products received from internal or external customers under the guidance and direction of the Lab Manager.

Successful candidates should understand the fundamentals of machine operation, electronics, pneumatics and print reading. At the Technician II level the candidate should have experience with test set-ups, test monitoring and test report generation. The Technician II will be learning STRATTEC product lines, be able to actively assist with trouble-shooting and, after training, be able to work with limited supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Responsible for performing manual or automated testing in accordance with the received test request and test plan per STRATTEC, customer and industry methods and specifications
• Generate detailed and accurate test reports, using photos, spreadsheets, outside test reports and other tools
• Provide verbal or written updates on test project progress to lab manager and project requestor as required
• Set up test equipment in accordance with STRATTEC or customer specifications, standards or test procedures. Test equipment includes mechanical and electrical, manual and automated.
• Create lab operations method sheets to document new testing procedures
• Support 3D printing workload by assisting with setting up and initiating print jobs, post-processing parts and maintaining 3D printers
• Assist in the up-keep of test equipment to ensure good operational condition by performing routine maintenance and making minor repairs or adjustments
• Write purchase requisitions and / or work orders for outside testing, equipment maintenance repairs, test fixtures and general lab items. Follow up on purchase / work orders to keep them on time and assure work is completed as requested.
• Support troubleshooting investigations for nonconforming product
• Assist other Test Technicians and Validation Engineers in completing assigned projects
• Remotely monitor 3D printers and test equipment according to written or verbal instructions, which may occasionally include after-hour and / or weekend support
• Support training for engineering Co-Op students in the use of the 3D printers, test equipment / methods and reporting of test results
• Pursue ongoing training, education and seminars to increase technical knowledge and understanding of tests, test equipment, communication and organizational skills
• Travel as necessary to support external testing activities and training
• Carryout tasks as assigned by Lab Manager

• Read and interpret drawings, charts, schematics and product specifications
• Computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft Office products to prepare reports and updates
• Ability to handle and organize multiple test projects, data, paperwork and files
• Ability to work with hand tools and basic machines to modify or create parts / fixtures; must have mechanical aptitude to work with tools in tearing down product assemblies
• Perform basic calculations to analyze problems

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma; with two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
