General Job Description

The System Administrator (Virtualization, Storage, and Cloud) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise VMware, SAN and Azure infrastructure platforms. The individual will take ownership of advanced technical projects requiring state of the art technical and industry knowledge. This is an important role tasked with sustaining best-in-class IT operations and operating with Cloud-first and cybersecurity mindsets. The individual will work both autonomously and as part of a dynamic and high functioning IT team solving complex computing issues from strategy to execution. Occasional evening and weekend work is required to support emergencies and MPR business goals.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, upgrade and patch on-premises VMware ESXi, vCenter, and HPE Nimble and ExaGrid storage systems.
  • Perform and verify storage and server data backups, data migration and disaster recovery operations.
  • Setup, install, configure, provision, and administer new servers, storage, and related infrastructure on-premises and in the Cloud.
  • Create and manage network file shares including access and permissions.
  • Create and provision datastores, storage pools and RAID Groups.
  • Develop Azure services and integrations.
  • Design, configure, implement, and migrate services to Azure.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and other necessary technical documentation.
  • Provide tier 3 escalation support.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline and three years’ experience or a minimum of five years hands on experience in systems administration and support.
  • Experience and proficiency designing and implementing enterprise-scale infrastructure systems built on Microsoft technologies for on-premises, hybrid environments or cloud native environments.
  • Experience with Azure services (Backup, Storage, RBAC, Virtual Machines, Container Instances).
  • Have VMware Certified Professional (Data Center Virtualization 6 or 7) certification.
  • Have or obtain Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate certification.

Skills

  • Expert knowledge of VMware, vSphere, and ESXi 7.
  • Expert knowledge of SAN administration (preferably HP Nimble and ExaGrid Systems).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server OSs and Linux.
  • Knowledge of file system/sharing protocols (CIFS, SMB and NFS).
  • Knowledge of backup procedures and protocols, cross site replication, and software best practices (Veeam Backup and Zerto).
  • Knowledge of SQL database management (MS SQL).
  • Knowledge of Active Directory permissions and security groups in a hybrid environment.
  • Knowledge of industry security best practices.
  • Strong project management and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and oral.
  • Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others.
