Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority is Hiring a President and CEO Near Moultrie, GA

Overview. The Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority, based in Moultrie, Georgia, is seeking candidates for President of the organization to lead the community’s economic development initiatives. The Chason Group (www.thechasongroup.com) has been retained to assist the authority with the executive search process.

About The Development Authority. The Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority was created in 1960 through an amendment to the Georgia Constitution. The authority plays an incredibly important role in the community by serving as the economic development organization charged with retaining existing businesses in the area and recruitment of new investments that are suitable to the local economy and infrastructure. Other key focus areas of the authority include: community marketing and attraction; entrepreneur and small business development; commercial real estate development; workforce growth; and long-range community planning. The authority is funded by the Colquitt County Board of Commissioners and bond revenues. Members of the EDO are appointed by the Commissioners and City of Moultrie.

About Moultrie and Colquitt County. Located in Southwest Georgia, Moultrie is in the center of Colquitt County, 24 miles west of Interstate 75 - about 200 miles (300 km) south of Atlanta and 60 miles northeast of Tallahassee, Florida. Many businesses have made Moultrie-Colquitt County part of their success due to the area’s pro-business environment, skilled labor force, and excellent quality of life. The region boasts the strongest ag community in Georgia and plays host to the Sunbelt Ag Expo every year, ag businesses have found a great match with the community. Moultrie-Colquitt County is strategically located to provide service to the entire southeastern United States with over 60 million people within a one-day truck drive. The area has an excellent transportation network with direct four lane connections to I-75 and I-10. Moultrie is served by the Georgia Florida Rail Network, which provides a direct connection to Norfolk Southern Railway in Albany and CSX Transportation in Thomasville. GFRN provides the flexibility and service of a local company. The community is ideally located near three deep water ocean ports: Brunswick, Georgia – 150 miles; Savannah, Georgia – 191 miles; and Jacksonville, Florida – 127 miles. Each of these ports is accessible by highway and rail.

Key Responsibilities. The President of the development authority is responsible for providing leadership, long-term visioning, strategic planning and implementing best practices for the economic development organizations and Moultrie-Colquitt County. The executive works with the Board and other stakeholders to execute plans designed to maintain and grow existing businesses and entrepreneurship as well as attract new investments for the area. The overall goal is to expand the local tax base. Specific responsibilities include encouraging the expansion and establishment of commercial, professional, and industrial businesses. The leader provides oversight of all daily operations; and, in collaboration with the community, develops, implements, and maintains an economic development plan of action. The President also represents the community and authority at meetings with clients and working with various partners.

The Ideal Candidate. The leaders of the development authority are seeking a candidate who has experience in the economic and / or community development field(s) and understands how to work with other stakeholders to grow the local economy. Additional key attributes desired include a professional who has expertise in developing and building relationships; an individual who understands how to market to companies looking to expand their operations; and a strategic thinker who is an innovator in finding solutions to complex issues.

Qualifications. Candidates for the President’s position should have at least three years of experience as an economic developer or similar role(s). Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Applicants for the position should also be innovative, creative, and experienced in developing relevant initiatives and goals to enhance a community’s tax base.
