Momentum Academy STL is Hiring a School Social Worker Near St. Louis, MO

Company Overview:

Momentum Academy is a public charter school district with four campuses in St. Louis City, serving scholars in grades PK-8. Momentum promotes academic excellence in an environment of mutual care and support that builds character, confidence, and community among each of our scholars so that they reach their full potential.


Role:

This position would operate from the regional office to support all four of our campuses. The position would provide support, education, and resource referrals to students and families of children enrolled in the schools. Perform therapeutic services to individual students and their families to assist with social and emotional concerns related to their educational and social progress. This person would work closely with the Director of Culture to ensure the wellness of our students, families, and staff.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assesses student and family needs (e.g., financial, medical, parenting skills, etc.) to develop and implement individualized plans of services to support life and educational objectives.
  • Coordinates workshops for parents and/or students (e.g., parenting skills, community resources, district programs, social skill development, etc.) for the purpose of assisting parents in maintaining a positive home environment, building trust between family and district, and supporting child's educational program.
  • Coordinates activities with a variety of outside services agencies, school sites, etc. (e.g., mental health, probation, medical, etc.) to provide referrals for families and/or students.
  • Maintains case records to document activities and comply with mandated requirements.
  • Mediates conflicts between parents, teachers and/or students (e.g., parent/teacher, parent/student, etc.) to resolve issues that could impede student's success.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Provides one-on-one, individual or group counseling sessions for students (e.g., social, behavioral, grief, teen pregnancy, violence, suicide, school attendance, etc.) for emotional and psychological support.
  • Responds to all inquiries from students, parents, teachers, administration for the purpose of providing information on district support services, potential intervention methods, and/or educational programs; and ensuring compliance with public education laws.
  • Responsible for the supports provided to McKinney Vento student and documents resources
  • Serves as a liaison between school and outside agencies (e.g., Division of Family Services, Juvenile Court, substance abuse counselors, physicians, etc.) to provide therapeutic options for individuals and families to explore.
  • Provide individual, family or group therapy for children experiencing problems in school, home, or community emphasizing early intervention.
  • Encourage and assist families in their pursuit of community services that may help remediate problems.
  • Participate as a member of staffing's or the IEP team to provide input in developing treatment goals, behavioral interventions, and family support.
  • Provide crisis intervention throughout the district, which is geared towards protecting the safety and emotional wellbeing of students.
  • Work with students and families to alleviate attendance concerns and when necessary, make referrals to St. Louis Family Court/Children’s Division.
  • Attend and participate in educational conferences and workshops pertinent to school social work.
  • Provide staff support and education in childhood mental health and human behavior.
  • Participate and network with school-based committees and associations and community interagency teams providing services to families and children (e.g., HSD Community Response Team, HSD Health Advisory Committee, Parent Involvement Programs, and School Social Workers of MO).
  • Maintain appropriate records.
  • Work with building principals to provide supports based on the needs of their school to ensure progress toward whole wellness.
  • Act as the district's McKinney Vento Homeless Liaison which includes supporting the needs of the homeless scholar population and ensuring the delivery of mandated services to facilitate scholar's attendance and access to appropriate education as outline in the McKinney Vento Law and District Policies.
  • Act as the District's Foster Care Liaison which includes support the needs of our scholar in foster care scholars by collaborating with local departments of Social Services and other agencies responsible for the care of these scholars as outlined in the Foster Care Law and District Policies
  • Assist families to secure access to health services, clothing, and other material needs if these are preventing the child’s enrollment or attendance at school
  • Work as a member of the educational team and participate in other professional auxiliary disciplines toward the understanding and resolution of student’s school problems
  • Act as a liaison between the school and community agencies
  • Participate as an active member of the Student Support Services Team with the school counselor and school nurse and Director of Culture
  • Keep casework and group work reports on appropriate case situations.
  • Submit reports as requested by Director of Culture
  • Attend workshops, in-services, and staff meetings scheduled by the Office of Social Work Services

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work (Masters preferred)
  • Missouri State Certification as a Social Worker

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Working knowledge of Social Work theory and processes
  • Ability to provide in-depth assessments and intervention options
  • Ability to collaborate with other mental health professionals
  • Knowledge of how to access community/mental health resources
  • Good interviewing and clarification skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
