Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Peer Tutor - Technical - Nursing (part-time)

DEPARTMENT: Library Learning Commons (LLC)

PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River Campus; some online hours may also be required

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Learning Resources

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Tutors in Peer Tutor - Technical positions bring substantial work experience in their field as a supplement to their academic credentials. The purpose of tutoring is to increase and enhance the mastery of concepts or course content (in this case, in or related to Nursing) for students who seek tutoring services. The Peer Tutor - Technical for Nursing will facilitate learning as a guide and coach to assist students in developing academic learning competencies to become successful, independent learners. The tutor will expose students to effective study and learning strategies and may employ those and other strategies in their tutoring.

The Peer Tutor - Technical may be asked to participate in different types of tutoring, to include but not limited to: one-on-one, drop-in, group, and/or virtual tutoring sessions. The tutor may also serve as an Embedded Tutor, Peer-Assisted Learning Leader, Academic Mentor, or Learning Community Ambassador if requested and if qualifications for those roles are met. Subject to the tutor's own availability and agreement, the Peer Tutor - Technical may be invited to work at additional campus locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Tutor students in academic concepts and/or course material; integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.

* Be prepared and on time for each tutoring session.

* Be sensitive to and respectful of the student's learning and, if appropriate, personal needs.

* Adhere to FERPA and other best practices in protecting confidential information pertaining to students.

* Work with the Coordinator(s) of Learning Resources to assess tutees' progress throughout tutoring sessions.

* Input session notes in a timely manner into department's record keeping system, such as TracCloud.

* Attend training sessions and staff meetings.

* Complete required college trainings such as, but not limited to, Title IX, FERPA, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Information Security.

* Follow all Library Learning Commons/departmental procedures and policies; report critical issues to LLC supervisor immediately.

* Refer tutees to other campus services or resources when appropriate.

* Submit electronic timesheet in Self Service Time & Attendance (SSTA) weekly, or paper timesheet, if required for payroll purposes.

* Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.

* Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

* Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

* Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a nurse.

* Effective communication skills and the ability to explain concepts to others clearly.

* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and Zoom.

* If a current Bristol student who has not completed their program, must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

* The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

* Previous experience in an educational setting, such as but not limited to tutoring, teaching, corporate instructing, or peer training.

* Demonstrated familiarity with Bristol resources available to students.

* Demonstrated proficiency with TracCloud or similar systems.

* Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.

Additional Information:

POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, non-unit, non-benefited, up to 18.5 hours per week position.

SALARY: $22.00 per hour
