The Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA, seeks a Performance Coordinator to work with our Curatorial and Production teams to deliver weekly performances of Simone Forti’s Dance Constructions as part of the artist’s upcoming survey, Simone Forti. Applicants should be available for the run of the exhibition, including rehearsals, from January 9 – April 2 2023. Reporting to the Associate Curator, this position works closely with the Producer of Performance and Programs to facilitate performances and to ensure that the cast has a positive and productive experience.

The position will work across departments to facilitate performances of Dance Constructions on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the exhibition, including acting as a point of the contact for the cast, making sure that their needs and concerns are accommodated, and working with Visitor Engagement, Security, Exhibitions departments to ensure the performances are accessible and seamless for both performers and museum patrons.

Essential Functions:

• Act as a liaison between the 18 Simone Forti Performers and other museum departments. The Performance Coordinator will be in close contact with the Performers whenever they are at the museum and be their primary point of contact.

• Be onsite and observe all presentations of Dance Constructions including rehearsals.

• Keep Associate Curator and Producer informed of any issues arising from the performance.

• Take careful notes regarding the performance space and the experience of patrons and performers during the performances. For example, note if the structures associated with the Dance Constructions need to be cleaned/repaired or if there are concerns around entrance and egress of patrons. As needed, alert Visitor Engagement, Security, Maintenance, and Exhibitions teams to these concerns.

• Keep Performers updated on any changes to the schedule and coordinate with Associate Curator and Producer if a Performer is unable to perform.

• Ensure that Green Rooms are kept tidy and well stocked.

• Coordinate with photographers and videographers as needed.

• Be available nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled and assigned.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge and interest in contemporary dance, performance, and culture.

• Prior experience working closely with performance and performing artists.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• A developed sense of timeliness and planning.

• Ability to work weekends and evenings as required.

Starting Rate: $20 per hour

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment is required. Heavy usage of computers and phones required.
