Position Description

Teaching Assistants will assist teachers in providing an innovative, high quality education program designed to meet the needs of the children at MLKCSE. Teaching Assistants will work with school staff to create an educational environment in which quality and continuity are key factors in educating the students of MLKCSE. This is a great opportunity and first step for individuals exploring teaching as a profession. 

• Partner with the lead teacher to support optimal learning environment for students
• Work within the classroom supports instruction by working with individual students or small groups of students in classroom setting to help students master the content objective
• Reinforce or remediate lessons presented by teachers by reviewing materials one on one or in small groups
• Enforce school and class rules and routines to help students maintain model student behavior
• Assist lead teacher with record keeping
• Assist teacher with maintenance of classroom environment, including preparation for lessons and breakdown of activities
• Assist the lead teacher in maintaining two way communication with families, including attending team/parent meetings as required
• Assist with universal screening of students
• Helps prepare lesson materials working with the grade level teachers
• May be asked to substitute for classroom teacher and lead teach during meetings, professional development as needed
• Performs other related duties as requested by the Academic Team
• Report to Academic Coach

Qualifications:

• GED or higher Experience working in an urban setting preferred
• Experience working with diverse student populations preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills 
• Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
