MKS Instruments Power Solutions products provide plasma generation and control solutions for semiconductor manufacturing processes. As the semiconductor manufacturing industry is continuing to push the envelope in terms of device density, wafer uniformity, and device speed, high-speed plasma control becomes a significant technical challenge. These challenges require innovative thinking and inquisitive engineering minds. We are looking for a Power Electronics Engineer (or Switchmode Engineer) to work in applied research/ advanced development who will research and develop high-performance plasma power generation equipment used in state-of-the-art semiconductor processing tools. MKS plasma power sources are used in the fabrication of virtually all high-performance integrated circuits used in smartphones, cloud servers, and AI-enabled devices. Curiosity is mandatory for this role. You can Learn: to design power conversion circuits, implement digital and analog control systems You will: Research, architect/design, build, test Work with switchmode power supply and inverter circuit/system design and simulation (including schematic capture and pc board layout) Design and analysis of high-performance control systems for switchmode power converters Validating performance in real-world situations (e.g. in a plasma processing environment) What you will bring to the team (along with your curiosity and creativity) is: BSEE or equivalent degree (ex. Physics, BSET, Electro-Mechanical) Interest/knowledge in power electronics with interests and curiosity in the adjacent fields of software, digital electronics, controls, physics School projects, internships or on-the-job experience in: 6 months of experience in a power electronics-related field 6 months of lab experience - Interest and experience in testing power electronics (e.g. oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power meters) 6 months of system and circuit simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, etc.) It is also nice if you have: Concentration in Power Electronics Strong theoretical background in electronics and physics Basic understanding of control system theory Good writing skills (proposals, specifications, test reports, engineering analyses, etc.) Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment Globally, our policy is to recruit individuals from wide and diverse backgrounds.
