JOB OVERVIEW This person will lead the tax department for KONE in the US (including all KONE entities – KONE Inc., KONE Holdings Inc, Marine Elevators LLC, and ENOK.). The responsibility for compliance includes all tax areas; Federal and State Income tax, Sales and Use tax, and all other tax requirements. The responsibility for compliance will also include all US licensing, including Business Licenses, Contractors Licenses, and annual reports. Both Tax and License compliance includes Federal, State, City, and County requirements. This person will plan, prepare, and deliver timely and accurate Tax returns and Payments ensuring we comply with all relevant regulations. This role encompasses Tax administration, Tax planning activities, all tax calculations, preparing supporting documents etc., and working with our partners (Deloitte, CSC etc.) ensuring 100% compliance in every tax area. This role also encompasses Tax accounting and reporting – both for KONE internally and externally. This includes ensuring accurate accounting, reporting and analysis of assigned balance sheet and statement of income accounts in accordance with KONE Accounting Standards (KAS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and international Accounting Standards (IAS). This role is expected to lead, manage, and successfully defend KONE position in all Tax Audits (Income tax as well as Sales & Use tax). This person will design and implement the changes resulting from audit learnings and drive the change in the KONE business process. This role will support the KONE Auditors (currently EY) with the annual internal audit as well. As Sr. Tax Accountant your responsibilities will be: Responsible for complete tax accounting, controls, reconciliation, and reporting on daily basis; ensuring the monthly P&L and Balance Sheet reflect the accurate tax positions; this includes preparing journal entries, reconciliation, ensuring true ups are done; and cash flow forecasts provided planned tax payments for the month. Consistently applying appropriate accounting policies and proactively recommend updates and revisions as appropriate. Establish control framework for Tax accounting; ensure compliance to KONE Accounting Standards (KAS) and KONE Internal Control Standards. Review and look for constantly improving the tax process and filing for accuracy and efficiency. Responsible for research of new tax rules, changes in the law, and to implement the changes / revised tax financial practices. KONE and other tax reporting responsibilities (Monthly, Quarterly, Annual etc.) Responsible for corporate income tax returns Including timely completion of tax work; ensuring 100% tax filings are done on time and accurately – including timely payments made to ensure total compliance. This includes preparation of taxable income and book-tax adjustments and providing information in a timely manner to Deloitte for preparation of consolidated US Corporate Income tax return and State Returns. Also responsible to complete preparation of City / Local Tax returns and filing them on time. Responsibilities also include preparation of extension requests and amounts, estimated tax vouchers and amounts, working various statements / apportionment data etc. Supervise the preparation of monthly Sales and Use tax returns. Ensuring 100% accurate and timely payment of all Taxes – including updating payment schedules as needed (e.g., estimated payments required by state) and ensuring proper balances are calculated and paid for annual extensions and Quarterly estimates – every single month. Complete ownership of Sales and Use tax for KONE – including reviewing / verifying the exemption certificate requests, researching and engaging with the customers / state tax departments to ensure we allow only legally permissible exemptions; at the same time ensuring all contracts / projects that should have exemption certificates are having them. Full ownership of all the functional aspects of the Tax software (including all modules, reporting, filing, exemptions etc.). Responsible for ensuring interface between Tax software and SAP works correctly including maintenance of required tables, updates of tax rates, product codes etc.). Lead the Tax software upgrade project as a Super-User and ensure proper testing and implementation; ensure all aspects of Change Management and Communication are taken care and all stakeholders are involved from the start to the end, and ensure the upgrade is completed successfully within the stipulated project time – while working closely with the Local Project Manager and the Global Project manager. Complete ownership and management of Tax Audits; (Includes Federal, State, City, County auditors – for Income tax, Sales tax, Use tax and all such topics); engaging with the auditors from the start, researching and ensuring quality and timely supply of information, ensuring proper audit defense and completely convincing the auditors and ensuring no penalties / interest are levied as well as no adverse impact to KONE. To ensure full compliance and support to EY tax auditors for Annual audits. To ensure all audit points are properly analyzed, root cause established, and any changes / improvements planned and executed across the company; and to ensure no repeat of any audit objections. Lead the tax compliance; ensure compliance with all tax regulations (Federal, State, City, County etc.) Responsible for compliance with State and local jurisdictions for sales and use taxes, real estate taxes, personal property taxes etc. Overall responsibility & supervision for compliance with business licensing – including business licenses, contractors’ licenses, annual reports etc. Prepare miscellaneous tax studies and assignments as required. Additional duties as deemed necessary by the Manager. The desired candidate will have: Excellent technical accountant with at least 5 years of experience working in a professional accounting role. Hands on tax experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Taxes, CPA preferred What can KONE offer you?
