STATISTICIAN, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), to support the design of an industry survey on computing and technology use among U.S. firms. Will support the development of survey design and sampling strategy and assist with data analyses and quality assurance. Responsibilities include developing survey design and sampling strategy for FutureTech industry survey of U.S. firms; calculating sampling weights for survey data and calculating sampling errors; preparing description documents for sampling methodology and procedures used for the survey project; power calculation including complex survey design using simulations or other detailed analysis; providing technical assistance in sampling frame construction, sample design, sample size determination, stratification, sample selection, and weighting; exploring and implementing innovative sampling methods to accommodate the survey project specific needs and methodologies; providing technical assistance in survey analysis, quality assurance, and comparisons with public data and writing up results; using survey data in combination with other lab sources to make projections on the future of computing adoption and progress; providing statistical advice to project staff and other ad-hoc tasks as needed; and performing other duties as requested.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in statistics, data science, economics, or a quantitative discipline in a related field; at least five years of demonstrated expertise in survey design, in particular, sampling designing samples for surveys in national or international settings, including designing samples for multi-industry surveys, calculating weights for survey data, and calculating sampling errors; expertise with statistical survey analysis techniques; experience with statistical forecasting and simulations; proficiency with R/Python statistical programming; and familiarity with the domain of technology and computing.
