Consumer Lending Compliance Analyst

What You Will Be Doing
Responsible for assisting and supporting the Consumer Lending Compliance Officer (CLCO) develop and implement sound consumer compliance policies and procedures that adhere with consumer protection laws and regulations applicable to MOHELAs student loan activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compliance - Assist the CLCO with development, implementation, monitoring and critical review of MOHELA consumer compliance policies and procedures. Assist the Consumer Lending Compliance Departments development and maintenance of a strong compliance program and promoting a culture of compliance through strict adherence with applicable consumer protection laws and regulations.
- Consumer Requests/Complaints - Work with the CLCO to ensure consumer requests, CFPB Complaint Portal postings, and other borrower/consumer complaint/inquiry issues are properly managed and appropriate actions are taken to correct identified concerns. Monitor customer surveys, correspondence and complaints, as well as assessment, review and audit results for areas that require additional training and oversight. Review consumer complaints or business practices for trends that require corrective actions.
- Regulatory Exams/Audits - Assist with preparation, coordination and execution of relevant regulatory examinations, audits, and regulatory action items through meeting attendance, information gathering and issue follow-up.
- Laws and Regulations - Maintain extensive knowledge and understanding of consumer protection laws, regulations, Congressional directives and industry best practices. Maintaining current knowledge of regulatory changes, trends within the industry, and expectations of regulators.
- New Products/Services/Business Practices - Understand business lines, operational areas, products and services and keep abreast of changes (new products, services or business practices).
- Compliance Issues/Training - Collaborate with the CLCO to evaluate possible compliance issues or inquiries; assist in developing the annual compliance work plan that reflects MOHELAs highest risks that will be monitored by the compliance function as determined through risk assessments using an enterprise wide approach. Communicate compliance and regulatory changes to the CLCO, assist with consumer compliance training for all employees and Board Members.
- Work Papers/Reports/Reviews - Assist as needed with preparing and maintaining work papers, reports, related internal reviews, suitable for inspection by examiners and audit staff. Assist the CLCO with preparing formal reports of review findings for issuance to Senior Management and the Board.
Experience You Will Bring
Education/Experience:
Minimum of 2 years at MOHELA. Bachelors degree preferred. Ideal fields of study: Business, Finance, or Law. Preference for experience with consumer lending compliance or consumer banking deposit/lending experience preferred. Working knowledge of consumer laws and regulations, including but not limited to: Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Fair Lending), Service Members Civil Relief Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Truth-In-Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, E-Sign Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act, Consumer Complaints.
- Good human relations skills, organization and time management skills.
- Ability to grasp, understand, and apply complex regulations.
- Ability to work independently, be a self motivated team player displaying a high degree of professionalism with a positive attitude and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Possess the flexibility necessary to effectively perform in a constantly changing professional environment.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
