MidWestOne Bank is Hiring a Senior Compliance Specialist Near Golden Valley, MN

Overview

The Senior Compliance Specialist (Lending and Operations) will advise and support MidWestOne Bank employees and business line owners on loan and operational compliance related federal regulatory requirements. This position will support the VP, Director of Compliance in the execution of the compliance management program (CMS). The execution of the CMS will include analyzing the compliance risk and business impact resulting from new and changing compliance regulations, industry trends and new/changing bank products and services to ensure alignment with the bank’s risk tolerance.

This position will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for loan and operational federal and state laws and regulations,

  • As a SME for loan related compliance the role includes but is not limited to: TRID, ATR/QM, Regulation Z, RESPA, CRA, Fair Lending, Regulation B, HMDA, Flood, and FCRA, and will work with business line owners to develop and establish business line processes and controls to ensure compliance.
  • As SME for operational compliance the role includes but is not limited to marketing/advertising compliance, ESIGN, Unfair and Deceptive Abusive Act and Practices (UDAAP), and will work with business line owners to develop and establish business line processes and controls to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Take the lead on assigned special projects requiring a high level of expertise; proactive problem-solving skills, agility and diligence in responsiveness, seek efficient solutions and take initiative; demonstrates leadership skills; assists with training others.
  • Analyze new, amended and existing federal and state law, regulations, and guidance and determine applicability to organization; and handle more complex questions independently and engage legal support when appropriate.
  • Analyze compliance risk exposure for self-identified violations and monitoring reviews and escalate to management as determined by root cause analysis. Communicates regulatory requirements and examiner expectations to MidWestOne Bank management, business line managers, and employees.
  • Monitor and assess impact of legislative developments, industry trends, and new/changing regulatory trends and requirements and provide relevant training to applicable staff.
  • Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of compliance processes and controls and recommend solutions that put the customer first while understanding compliance risks.
  • Participate in testing of loan and operational systems to ensure compliance.
  • Follow up with business line owners on outstanding compliance monitoring and/or audit findings.
  • Manages with monitoring of procedures and practices of bank personnel for compliance with lending and operational laws and regulations within the scope of the compliance program and adherence to established bank policy.
  • Actively participate as a member of compliance committees and task forces; assist with meeting preparation, documentation and follow-up.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with operational personnel, mid-level management and executive officers of the bank.
  • Prepare written reports for delivery to management and the board.
  • Perform additional bank compliance responsibilities, as assigned, including back up support to other Compliance Specialist (e.g. Deposit Operations).

Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience attained through a bachelor’s degree, relevant industry certification (preferably CRCM).
  • Robust knowledge of lending and operational banking functions and associated federal laws and regulations, especially TRID, RESPA, UDAAP, CRA, Fair lending laws and HMDA.
  • Knowledge of deposit operations and associated compliance management program is a plus.
  • A minimum seven (5) years of loan and operational bank compliance department, regulatory examination or compliance audit experience is required. Demonstrated understanding of consumer and commercial credit process.
  • Passionate about continuously learning and willingness to seek out opportunities for growth and development are a must
  • In depth experience in regulatory research with the ability to interpret and understand laws and regulations.
