Position: Buyer Reports to: Sr. Manager Supply Chain

The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying and fostering a relationship with our suppliers and vendors. This position will be responsible for purchasing and inventory planning activities for our manufacturing organization, measuring its performance, and ensuring reliable and timely supply of material availability to support operations while simultaneously managing material costs.

Responsibilities

  • Procurement, sourcing, and contracting of materials, supplies, equipment, and services.
  • Source, select and negotiate for the best purchase package in terms of quality, price, terms, deliveries and services with suppliers.
  • Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce cost where possible
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply issues which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
  • Support relevant departments with quotations for the purpose of cost calculation and projects.
  • Work with Engineering on new product development projects and support the purchasing activities associated with the project.
  • Process Engineering change orders to assure continuous flow of material to support production
  • Maintaining adequate inventory levels to meet the production schedule
  • Responsible for vendor and raw material maintenance in and outside the ERP system
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships, track performance, and provide vendor feedback
  • Lead development of purchasing strategies to maximize material availability while optimizing inventory levels.
  • Maintain updated list of preferred vendors with accurate contact information
  • Oversees the maintenance of records of purchases, delivery dates, vendors, costs, and other resources
  • Develops and approves plans to work out remedies for defective, late or unacceptable goods or services
  • Develops metrics & performance feedback to drive supplier performance
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
  • Work with overseas vendors and coordinate importing of goods with freight carriers to insure on time delivery
  • Review late order reports and work with suppliers to improve delivery performance
  • Coordinate with sales and manufacturing on custom order parts to insure on time delivery to the customer
  • Prepare reports

Qualifications

  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 3-5 years' of purchasing experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with ERP systems
  • Ability to multi-task effectively with solid judgement and prioritization skills
  • Flexibility to work well in a dynamic, sometimes stressful, and demanding team environment.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate data
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good negotiation, communication (oral and written), analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motived
  • Team player
