Mid Florida Eye is searching for an energetic, patient focused, team oriented, customer service oriented Ophthalmic Technician for our multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in Mount Dora, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician promptly and professionally assist the physician with patient care, monitor and assist with patient flow and scheduling. Job functions are to be handled accurately, quickly, and courteously. Must be well organized and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, have excellent computer skills, time management skills, communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other staff members. Must be flexible in work assignments and schedule; demonstrate commitment to ongoing education and upgrading of skills. Must meet and adhere to MFEC policies and procedures, uphold to the highest ethical principles of maintaining confidentiality and other performance standards.

Responsibilities

Communication and Patient Care:

  • Lensometry
  • Pupil exam
  • Confrontation visual field
  • Perform BAT, PAM and Lambda
  • Indention tonometry
  • Uses autorefractor and lensometers (automatic and manual)
  • Monitors patient flow, ensuring the physician exam rooms are always full after testing
  • Escorts patients to front desk after exam
  • Perform OPD
  • Monitor tech bin and lab bin for Physicians, make patient phone calls

Administrative:

  • Ensures that exam rooms are tidied between patients, including cleaning sinks and sanitizing equipment
  • Cleans all lenses used by doctors
  • Monitors diagnostic schedule to stay on-time of patient scheduling
  • Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance on equipment (bulbs and batteries)
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Equipment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated computer literacy

Qualifications

  • Possess at least one year of experience in a clinical setting as a technician, preferably holding a COA 
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be a well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail
  • Demonstrate superior computer skills
  • Highly energetic with positive attitude
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting
