MHP has over $1.3 billion in credit lines from Massachusetts banks and is an FHA Risk-Sharing Program and Fannie Mae affordable multifamily lender and an MAP lender. Current Opportunity: 

MHP is searching for a Senior Multifamily Loan Portfolio Manager who will be responsible for proactively managing a complex portfolio of real estate loans on multifamily properties in Massachusetts. This position would be ideal for a commercial real estate lender, asset manager, or loan servicer who has a desire to work in a mission-driven non-profit organization, as part of a dedicated team of real estate professionals in MHP's Portfolio Management Team. Specific responsibilities will include managing MHP's relationships with borrowers, conducting credit reviews and site inspections, addressing project operating performance and payment issues, preparing workout, collection and refinance plans, and mentoring junior staff members in the administration of assigned loans. 

MHP is currently working on a hybrid model of up to 2 days per week in our Boston office. Successful candidates will work out of our Boston office per our hybrid schedule. MHP employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption per our vaccination policy.? 

Below are some of the ways you will spend your day as a Senior Portfolio Manager:

  •  Assisting in the development of a socially sensitive strategy to administer each assigned loan with the goals of preserving and expanding the supply of affordable housing.
  • Managing MHP’s relationships with end loan borrowers, including proactively addressing project operating performance and payment issues, and negotiating workouts of troubled loans, once approved by senior management or the Board.
  • Providing leadership in the establishment, review and documentation of reasonable policies and operating procedures regarding the management of loans in MHP’s portfolio.
  • Managing the development, improvement and maintenance of the management information systems utilized for the loan portfolio, including the loan servicing systems and customized database applications, including PMIS and RealSynergy.
  • Performing site inspections consistent with portfolio management guidelines for each property to evaluate the quality of the units, the adequacy of ongoing maintenance work, management capacity, and local market conditions. 
  • Analyzing borrower financial statement spreads and identifying trends that could have a material impact on the credit quality of individual closed loans according to current approved guidelines. 
  • Conducting a credit risk rating for each assigned loan according to the department’s documented policy.
  • Mentoring and supervising junior staff members providing support to the Portfolio Analyst, Assistant Portfolio Manager, and Portfolio Manager in the administration of assigned loans according to PM policies and procedures.

Requirements

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • MHP is looking for candidates with at least 7-10 years of progressive experience in lending, asset management, or property management, with specific experience relating to the financing and/or operation of multifamily properties. Strong analytical, business writing and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Ability to understand and interpret loan and regulatory documents is required.
  • Strong computer skills required including word processing, database systems, document management system, familiarity with excel and spreadsheet modeling. Familiarity with loan servicing software a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance accounting or related field, or equivalent experience and knowledge. Excellent interpersonal skills required, including the ability to work well in a small team environment and to effectively manage relationships with MHP’s borrowers. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while maintaining consistently high quality work.
  • Experience with tax-exempt bond financing, FHA’s Multifamily Programs, Fannie Mae, low income housing tax credits, or other affordable housing programs a plus.
  • A current driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation is required in order to attend site visits of portfolio developments through the state
