MGE is Hiring a Vegetation Management Inspector (VMI) Near Lake County, CA

Are you a professional who enjoys working in the great outdoors? Do you want to join a supportive team that is dedicated to your success? Would you like to join an essential workforce helping safeguard California against wildfires?

In this position, you will patrol electrical distribution and transmission lines to inspect vegetation. Using your education, professional experience, and company-provided tools & training, you will identify vegetation and assess it for growth, health, and compliance standards. You will record vegetation data on a handheld tablet and, if needed, prescribe tree work. This occurs year-round in a wide variety of locations, terrains, and weather conditions. Additionally, you will communicate effectively with property owners and stakeholders about this work.

MGE's corporate office is in Folsom, CA and regional offices are in Chico and Fresno. MGE has endeavored to secure opportunities statewide and will continue to do so. Our goal is for every employee to be able to work near their home. Given the nature of our work, this is not always the case and travel will often be expected for the duration of the assigned project. In such instances, MGE will provide per diem and lodging accommodations. You may be called upon for overtime and emergency response work. This position requires enrollment in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union 1245.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts tree and brush inventories
  • Conducts hazard tree inspections and evaluations
  • Plans work for tree contractors
  • Notifies property owners of tree work to be performed
  • Manages data
  • Adheres to on-the-job safety practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience /Education requirements (must meet one):
    • One (1) year of related arboricultural experience, OR
    • ISA Certified Arborist, OR
    • 2-year or 4-year college degree in a related field
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Ability to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union 1245
  • Knowledge of tree species and growth rates
  • Ability to read and follow maps
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Willingness to travel during the week
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check required

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an ISA Arborist Certification
  • 2- or 4-year Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Biology, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Bilingual

PREMIUM TIME:

All Overtime is considered Premium Time (PT) and PT is paid as double the regular straight-time rate of pay.

HOLIDAYS:

All work performed outside of the regularly scheduled working hours and on Saturdays, Sundays, and the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday following, and Christmas Day, or days celebrated as such, shall be paid for at double the regular straight-time rate of pay.
