The below listed job announcement is for a position as a Police Officer on the Campus of Methodist University, located at 5400 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina.   • 40 Hour Work Week: 4 Days a week, 10-hour shifts
  • Permanent Shifts
  • Pay Range: $21.00 - $25.00 an hour (Annual Salary Range: $43,680 - $52,000)
  • $3,000 Sign-On/Retention Bonus
  • MU Personnel Scholarship: Provides 100% tuition remission for undergraduate programs for the employee, employee spouse and employee dependents, eligible after 1 year of employment
  • Retirement: 403b plan – Employee can contribute immediately, MU contribution after 1 year of employment at 2% of earnings (pre-tax and MU does not require a match, MU contributes the 2% once eligible, even if employee is not contributing)
  • Free access to Nimocks Fitness Center for employee and one guest
  • Benefits selected are effective the 1st of the month, following 30 days of employment
    • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance
    • Basic Life Insurance covered by MU at 1.5x annual earnings, Voluntary Life Insurance

  • Annual leave:
    • Paid vacation - 10 days a year

Minimal job description below – additional job functions as required by the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division.

Police Officers support the mission, goals, and objectives of the University, the Division of Student Development and Services, and that of the Department of Public Safety. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Enforcing State and Federal Laws; and local ordinances
  • Protecting the Methodist University Community and Property (Students, Faculty, Staff and Guest) from criminal offenses committed in Methodist University Police Jurisdiction.
  • Maintain proficiency in all essential job functions of a Law Enforcement Officer as indicated in Attachment V of the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission form (F-8)
  • Securing campus facilities either by your presence or through the building security plan
  • Following in detail the Public Safety Manual of procedures and any directives received from the Chief/Director or any supervisory staff within the Police Department.
  • Respond to all law enforcement related calls for assistance within the Methodist University Jurisdiction.
  • Assist in providing Police coverage on a 24 hour basis; and as directed by your supervisor.
  • Communicate any Police problems/issues to your Police Supervisor.
  • Responsible for the completion and filing of all forms; such as:
    • Incident Reports
    • Daily Patrol Reports
    • Maintenance Reports
    • Accident Reports (Personnel/Property)
    • Other reports as required

In addition, you are responsible to fulfill all rules, regulations, and guidelines of Methodist University; and to be a proper role model for students at all times. Finally, you are responsible for fulfilling other duties as assigned by the University President, Vice President of Student Development and Services, the Chief of Police/Director of Police and Public Safety, and any other Supervisor assigned to the Methodist University Police Department.

Qualifications


Minimum Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Have successfully completed Basic Law Enforcement Training for the State of North Carolina
  • Have at least one year of law enforcement

Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Pass an oral interview
  • Meet all requirements of the commissioning process
  • May be required to undergo additional screening test/exams as determined by the Chief of Police/Director of Police and Public Safety
