Methodist Children's Home Society is Hiring a Fundraising Associate Near Redford, MI

I. JOB SUMMARY

Under the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), the Development Officer supports all activities within the Development Department, primarily focused on fundraising, donor relations, fundraising activities, community engagement and networking, volunteer strategies, special events and third party events, all in an effort to help Methodist Children’s Home Society (MCHS) achieve optimal fund development operations and positioning of the organization.

II. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementation of fund development, fund sustainability activities, community outreach strategies and activities and volunteer engagement activities.
  • Develop, cultivate and maintain close contacts with donors, prospective donors, vendors, venues, individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Maintain a portfolio of prospective donors, annual sponsors and prospective volunteers.
  • Implement and support fundraising activities as it relates to major gifts, direct gifts, donor prospecting, planned giving and special events.
  • Maintain essential records and gift acknowledgements.
  • Solicit and organize gifts for silent auctions.
  • Represent the agency to outside groups and organizations, including business, community, and media events.
  • Fully participate in regular agency-wide events and appropriate community-wide events and activities.
  • Assist with coordinating speaking engagements with various entities throughout Michigan.
  • Manage data entry, gift processing, and acknowledgements through Salsa CRM and Salsa Engage.
  • Assist with coordination and facilitation of in-kind donations and drop offs.
  • Participate in the planning, organizing, coordination, promotion, and facilitation of agency special events including program-based supports such as youth birthdays, holiday gifts and day-to-day needs such as clothing, school supplies and hygiene item drives.
  • Coordinate with agency staff any support needed for 3rd party special events, including internal and external events with service clubs.
  • Provide general oversight and guidance to special event committees and special event volunteers.
  • Assist and coordinate with speaking engagements with various entities throughout Michigan.
  • Support fundraising activities as it relates to major gifts, direct gifts, grants, donor prospecting, planned giving and special events.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS’s mission and vision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the CAO.

III. BASIC COMPETENCIES

Education and Experience

The Development Officer will be an experienced professional with an array of fund development experience. The Development Officer will be outgoing, passionate and motivated to reach out in the community and extend MCHS’s mission and vision to donors, volunteers, community partners, and other key stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least two (2) years of experience in fundraising and/or marketing, or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred with at least one (1) year of experience in fundraising and/or nonprofit development.
  • Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Computer and software applications (All MS Office).
  • Principles and practices of fund development operations and management.
  • Tactical planning and organizing.

Skills and Abilities Needed:

  • Work flexible hours, when needed, which may include some evenings and weekends.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with agency staff, volunteers, government officials, foundation and corporate executives.
  • Demonstrate leadership and integrity.
  • Motivate, develop, and direct volunteers as they work.
  • Manage time and multiple priorities; meet deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers and the public at-large.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Be collaborative and flexible, with a strong service mentality.
  • Attend training and travel offsite for events, meetings and seminars.
  • Possess a high degree of personal accountability, responsibility and independent decision making abilities with the skills to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the organization.
