Job Description and Responsibilities

General Summary:

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for maintenance of the current quality system, reviewing customer quality requirements, effective problem containment and resolution, working with customers and suppliers to resolve concerns, performance of internal quality audits, assist in supplier auditing and development efforts and assist plant personnel as required.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain quality records to meet IATF requirements
  • Attend customer meetings as needed. Customer visits to include following up on customer rejects and concerns.
  • Work on problem resolution teams or special projects, such as launch teams, problem solving teams, Six Sigma teams, Lean Manufacturing, etc. 
  • Assists in investigation of product defects and recommendations of modifications in product, process and/or quality standards as warranted, including Material Review Board (MRB) process.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering regarding defect analysis and process improvements.
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships.
  • Monitor performance of the internal quality systems and reports findings with recommendations to the Quality Manager and plant personnel, including management review.
  • Assist in the documentation and submission of PPAP for new and changed products.
  • Participate in advanced quality planning (APQP).
  • Maintain 4D material certification system.
  • Monitor and analyze process parameters and their effects on material testing results and overall part quality.
  • Ensure conformance of material testing to international and customer-specific testing requirements. Coordinate training as needed to meet these requirements.
  • Provide technical support in determining process parameters to meet customer requirements.
  • Assists in maintaining the Corrective Action System and Layered Process Audit

Requirements

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Quality systems and standards, such as IATF.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in and encourage a team environment and facilitate change when necessary.
  • Working knowledge of quality practices and principles.
  • Proficient knowledge of PC software applications including MS office, Minitab, Sharepoint.
  • Strong background in statistical techniques (MSA, Capability, ANOVA)
  • Strong ability to analyze complex situations and make timely decisions.
  • Knowledge of foundry products and characteristics.
  • Knowledge of casting processes and procedures.

Working Conditions

The Quality Systems Coordinator will reside in the office and on the production floor. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and on their feet 50% on the production floor.
  • Must be able to move about inside the office and in the plant.
  • This position will operate a computer and other machinery in the plant.
  • Must be able to frequently communicate with employees and other individuals in person and telephone.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Engineering degree.
  • 3-7 years of quality related experience desired.
  • Green sand, DISAmatic foundry experience preferred.
