Summary of the Position

This Environmental Specialist provides support services for environmental compliance activities. As MTI’s environmental focus evolves from a compliance-only mindset to a sustainability mindset, it is critical that compliance activities are not neglected. This position focuses on maintaining regulatory and ISO 14001 compliance at all times at designated facilities.

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compliance
    • Air, water, and waste permit compliance
    • Regular inspections for air, water, and waste compliance
    • Preparation and submittal of periodic reports to state, federal, or other authorities
    • Maintaining up-to-date facility environmental information (plans, drawings, maps, etc.)
    • Work with facilities to ensure they adhere to corporate environmental policy and expectations
  • Sustainability
    • Maintaining compliance with each facility’s Environmental Management System (EMS)
    • Prepare and present environmental metrics at monthly management review meetings

Requirements

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel often to maintain a presence at each of Michigan facilities. Majority of travel does not require overnight stays.
    • Stationed at Three Rivers, MI facility, but must spend one full day at each MI facility no less than biweekly, preferably weekly.
    • Periodic travel out of state may be required.
  • Positive, cheerful, team-oriented attitude
  • Knowledge of general environmental requirements
  • Willingness and desire to learn the environmental aspects of heavy industry
  • Proficient with standard computer programs such as Word, Excel, etc.
    • Willingness to learn AutoCAD and/or Solid Works
  • Organization and maintaining a clean work environment
  • Ability to maintain focus on tasks through their completion.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • College degree in Engineering (Environmental, Mechanical, Civil, etc.), EH&S, or other related field preferred.
    • Current college students nearing degree completion are encouraged to apply.
