AGENCY BACKGROUND:

MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

The Fiscal Department is responsible for obtaining, managing, and recording all monies on behalf of MercyFirst. The department controls the income and expenditure in addition to ensuring effective business running with minimum disruptions. Besides the traditional roles of handling the payroll, budgeting, tracking income and expenses, fiscal department responsibilities also include economic analysis to improve key business strategies. 

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for advanced level accounting functions including account reconciliation and review of work performed by other Fiscal Department staff. The Accounting Manager may have supervisory responsibility for staff as assigned. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing their assigned area and utilizing best practices to ensure the accurate, timely processing of assigned work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5 years of related work experience in accounting or finance
• Prior supervisory experience supervising accounting staff
• Good organization skills
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with Financial Edge software a plus
• Valid driver’s license
• Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s Mission, core values, Sanctuary Commitments and Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for recording and/or review of journal entries.
• Preparation and review of accounting schedules.
• Manage and maintain contracts with outside vendors/funding sources.
• Review and preparation of audit documentation.
• Supervise, train, monitor and evaluate job performance of assigned staff in accordance with the Agency procedures and policies.
• Daily, proficient use of computer equipment and software programs including financial, client tracking and MS Office applications.
• Provide support to Directors and CFO as needed.
• Effectively communicate with all agency personnel, outside vendors and funding sources.

Salary Range:
$60,000 - $90,000 per year

Hiring Incentive - $1,500 after 500 worked hours
