POSITION SUMMARY: The material handler position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the warehouse/yard. This position is responsible for maintaining production and distribution of product by pulling orders from inventory, delivering production materials and supplies, and staging finished product.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment. · Sort cargo before loading and unloading. 
  • Receive finished goods, inspect for damage, organize and accurately record inventory using production sheets or work tickets 
  • Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets. 
  • Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported. 
  • Operate industrial forklift and motorized pallet jacks in warehousing chain link bales according to SKU numbers and material type 
  • Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected. · Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers. 
  • Carry needed tools or supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use. 
  • Pull and prepare rolled/bundled fence product and load fencing rolls onto flatbed truck for customers’ orders and shipping 
  • Follow established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment. · Perform miscellaneous yard/warehouse duties as necessary and as directed by supervisor. 
  • Provide excellent customer service. · Must be able to work overtime as required.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Minimum 1-year experience in construction labor, fence yard labor or equivalent related field 
  • Successful completion of Forklift Safety Certification training

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Job tasks might sometimes be performed in dusty, wet, hot, and/or cold outdoor weather working conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; frequently stand for long periods of time, climb or balance; and reach, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift, carry, and/or move up to 60 pounds and frequently push and pull up to 120 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
