Truck drivers are essential to our country’s economy because they haul products and materials throughout all states. Without truck drivers, businesses and consumers would not have what they need. Transportation Specialists work with our Trailer Program and provide driver's lease and rental agreements for Mercer Transportation. You will communicate with recruiters to ensure trailers are available for oncoming drivers in advance of their orientation. Partner with various vendors to ensure proper equipment is received.
Job duties often include:
You are expected to work within a system designed to handle drivers from their orientation process through the duration of their contract with Mercer. This system often requires the management of hundreds of truckers a year and working with our truck/van operations, recruiters and vendors to support drivers.
Interpersonal Skills and Knowledge a Trailer Program Administrator Should Possess
As an Transportation Specialist, you must be able to maintain logical follow-through on all projects. One of the most critical skills is the ability to efficiently answer and respond to questions regarding projects and promptly respond to customer needs. You must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills used to effectively convey information with a clear understanding to others. Also, you should develop an in-depth understanding of the truck-driving industry and remain current on truck maintenance, DOT safety regulations, systems and procedures. As a Transportation Specialist, you should seek opportunities to improve processes and implements creative solutions.
Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license
Mechanical knowledge of diesel engine commercial vehicles is a plus. Previous inspections experience in any other areas (home, auto, structural, mechanical/electrical) is also a plus. General knowledge of cars/trucks/commercial equipment is preferred and recommended.
