HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

Mercadien, a full service, mid-sized financial services (advisory, tax, accounting and wealth management) firm in Princeton, New Jersey is currently seeking a Human Resources Director to join our growing team.

As the HR Director, you are responsible for creatively and proactively thinking about driving and implementing HR strategy in the areas of culture, talent acquisition and development, policies and administration, compensation and benefits administration, employee relations and communication, performance management, and compliance reporting. This position plays an integral role in maintaining the firm’s status as an employer of choice. While the position is Hybrid (some days in the office/most days working remotely) the ideal candidate must be within commuting distance to the Princeton area. 

The position reports directly to the CEO, as well as the partner in charge of culture, providing superior support and management in the following areas:

Recruitment

  • Manages the entire new hire experience and ensures consistent and effective orientation, onboarding, and acclimation processes for all new associates
  • Works closely with key firm project managers and stakeholders on hiring needs and planning
  • Partners with Leadership to develop and continually revise a workforce planning model that is aligned with short and long term business goals
  • Develops qualitative and quantitative entry level and experienced hire recruitment plans that flow from a thorough workforce planning analysis
  • Ensures the recruitment processes and methodologies are effectively implemented in the Firm (e.g. implementation of our college relations recruitment strategy, accurate applicant tracking, facilitation of internal/external referral process and effective candidate management)
  • Development
  • Promotes a high performance-based culture by facilitating the alignment between individual goal setting and the Firm, Firm-wide business goals and strategy, and ensuring alignment between reward/recognition system and individual/organizational performance
  • Drives and facilitates the interim and annual associates’ performance review process
  • Performs training on various Firm human resources initiatives to ensure that associates are knowledgeable regarding their roles and responsibilities in people processes
  • Responsible for coordination of the Firm’s Mentoring and Buddy Programs
  • Develops and supervises the HR Coordinator and HR Administrator 
  • Supervises the Administrative staff consisting of the receptionist, administrative assistants, technical assistants, and Office Coordinator
  • Oversees Mercadien’s Associate Advisory Committee (AAC)

Culture, Retention, and Engagement

  • Drives the enhancement of a culture, that meets the needs of a growing diverse workforce including championing a supportive work culture that fosters flexibility and values all people
  • Enhances our existing culture, set in a temporary virtual work environment
  • Drives Mercadien’s equity, diversity, & inclusion initiative
  • Researches, maintains, and creates recruiting and retention programs to enhance our unique and valued firm culture experience and stay competitive in the public accounting labor market
  • Employs strategies to maintain people, leveraging the fully integrated HRMS and company intranet platforms
  • Utilizes available associates and Firm’s feedback/data (e.g. Associate survey results, exit survey results, exit interview feedback and stay interviews) to identify opportunities for the constant enhancement of our work culture and environment
  • Oversees the development and evaluation of associate flexible work arrangements 
  • Stays in touch with associates across the Firm, listens to concerns and acts to resolve them where appropriate
  • Analyzes current HR programs and implements strategies for improving associate relations
  • Promotes firm culture through firm-wide fun events and initiatives 

Benefits

  • Leads benefits administration in coordination with our benefits broker
  • Drives annual insurance medical benefits assessment process by analyzing financial data and partnering with broker to negotiate costs and carriers
  • Oversees the Firm’s total compensation program, including base compensation, incentive pay and other bonus programs
  • Conducts annual compensation and benefit/wellness studies
  • Effectively communicates reward/recognition strategies and objectives to staff (e.g. pay for performance philosophy, incentive compensation)
  • Proactively monitors reward/recognition strategies to ensure external competitiveness and internal equity and challenges the Firm’s leadership to adjust strategy when appropriate

Compliance, Policies and Procedures

  • Drafts and revises Firm policies and procedures to maintain compliance with State and Federal Labor and employment regulations
  • Drafts and revises Firm policies and procedures to assure alignment with firm culture and core values
  • Develops, maintains, and implements human resources policies and procedures consistent with Firm-wide policies, yet responsive to the local market
  • Maintains all personnel files
  • Provides education and guidance to associates in their management functions

Additional Position Accountabilities

  • Active involvement in professional associations to stay on top of industry and market trends 
  • Strategic alignment with production teams
  • Supports Mercadien’s people core operating strategy
  • Contributes to Firm performance and profitability as a member of the Firm’s Management team
  • Serves as confidant to the Firm and provides credible HR counsel to the leadership
  • Demonstrates leadership in the areas of change, teamwork, stewardship and risk management
  • Demonstrates support of the Firm and Firm strategy and actively contributes to successful strategy implementation within the Firm
  • Presents to groups very effectively 
  • Manages the off-boarding process for all terminated personnel
  • Other ad hoc projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required, graduate degree preferred (MA, MBA, JD)
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • 10 years of experience in Human Resources 
  • Demonstrates competencies in business, delivery of human resources practices, and change management
  • Critical and creative strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • An excellent writer-to draft policies, manuals, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to command a room, enthusiastically presenting new hires and Firm initiatives
  • Approachable and trustworthy demeanor to manage conflict and confidential situations 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work independently and/or as part of a team
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer software applications
