This is a temporary position, expected need from mid April - mid August.

  • Ensure all material released to the public is appropriately reviewed and approved for technical accuracy, is grammatically correct, and conforms to applicable style guides
  • Maintain a database of information products, fact sheets, and collateral materials for distribution
  • Maintain current updates with programs and schedules by attending program/project staff meetings, planning meetings, reading reports and program plans, and through direct interaction with technical staff and crew chiefs
  • Attend and participate in numerous weekly and monthly program and public affairs conference calls, including video teleconferences related to center activities
  • Develop and distribute news releases, media advisories, b-roll, photographs, graphic files, and related products to print and electronic media, documentary and entertainment media, production houses, and related industry entities as required/requested
  • Serve as escort for media visits and tours
  • Facilitate and coordinate phone and on-site media interviews and provide background information in support of center news stories
  • Coordinate Public Affairs outreach activities and events
  • Provide weekly reports of media contacts and other significant events
  • Provide support and travel as needed for off-site events
  • Support office leadership in formulating strategic direction and content management for the AFRC web page
Job Requirements
  • Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, English or a closely related field
  • Must have 2 years of specialized public affairs and media relations experience, OR relevant experience totaling 6 years or more can be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Possession of exceptional oral and written communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS *

The physical demands described herein are representative of those which may need to be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Employees must possess the ability to work in an office environment. If required, employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle which may require sitting for prolonged periods of time to visit other company sites. Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups and over the telephone. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. This position may require an employee to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, reach, push, and pull. The employee may also be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
