McMillan Pazdan Smith LLC is Hiring an Architect Near Charleston, SC

Description

McMillan Pazdan Smith is seeking an experienced Architect to join our Charleston team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in architectural design and experience with varied building types. Opportunities exist for multi-family, office, community, industrial, educational, and civic projects. The ideal candidate will also be proficient in Revit, be detail and deadline-oriented, and have experience managing challenging, fast-paced concepts. This is an excellent opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute in a diverse and fun environment. McMillan Pazdan Smith has 220 employees across six locations in the South East. The Project Architect is responsible for all project phases from conceptual through construction administration, and collaborating with a design team. 

Essential Functions

  • Take responsibility for finished plans, specifications, and approval of materials and construction
  • Produce work involving a variety of complex features
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to RFIs
  • Apply sound knowledge of architectural principles and practices in a broad array of assignments and related fields
  • Assist with budget management
  • Prepare design presentation materials
  • Work directly with client and/or user group to develop schematic design concepts and programming studies
  • Provide professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex projects
  • Write and edit specifications as assigned
  • Conduct code research and analysis and review with various agencies for approval
  • Collaborate with engineers, consultants, contractors and/or clients
  • Assume project manager role on assigned projects
  • Prepare project proposals, design team budget, schedule, and workforce projections
  • Supervise and provide guidance regarding overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters
  • Ensure that the project meets environmental, safety, structural, zoning, and aesthetic standards
  • Build, manage and nurture client relationships

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent
  • Registered as a licensed architect
  • 7-9 years of experience
  • Excellent grasp of building technology fundamentals
  • Experience leading project teams
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant codes, operations, processes, and trends
  • Business development and client relations experience in a leadership capacity
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software
  • Proficiency in Revit
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional organizational and follow-through skills
  • Ability to provide clear direction and instill motivation to a team
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Newforma Project Center and/or Newforma Project Analyzer 
  • Experience with Microsoft Project 
  • Experience with Bluebeam PDF Revu 
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit software
  • Relevant certifications indicating additional expertise for construction administration, interior design, LEED/Green Globes/sustainability, etc.
