This internship is for a college student enrolled in an engineering program or a recent grad. We
are seeking a self-driven individual to join the department as an intern to learn about
transportation engineering and the civil engineering field.
Major duties and responsibilities
  • Assist the design staff's preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for CDOT construction projects. This includes performing calculations, writing and compiling specifications, preparing memos and reports and adhering to design standards. All design assistance will be performed under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
  • As an intern, one primary objective of the position is to receive training and instruction on how to plan, design and administer projects with CDOT. This involves spending time with the design staff as mentors to the employee. A large portion of this position is intended to be a learning experience for the intern in their future career.
  • Review plans and specifications during milestone reviews in order to identify problems with constructability, quantity errors and failure to comply with design standards. This work will involve performing calculations for quantities, researching current design standards and applying them to the plan set, and editing specifications for completeness and accuracy.
Work Environment
  • Daytime hours Monday - Friday. A flexible schedule is available.
  • Required to work in the office Monday - Thursday. Working fom home on Fridays is acceptable.
  • Required to drive to meetings, trainings, and field visits.
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
  • Require to drive CDOT vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Any college student enrolled in a U.S. accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Engineering.
OR
  • A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended a U.S. accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Engineering within the last three calendar years.
OR
  • A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Services Program.
College Transcripts: If you are using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or an official foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application.
