Since 1883, The Bridgeport Port Jefferson (BPPJ) Ferry has proudly served the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson communities as the trusted maritime transportation provider. Our mission is to offer a safe, reliable, and enjoyable ferry experience for passengers transiting the Long Island Sound barrier.
BPPJ Ferry is seeking highly qualified individuals to serve as a Steward. Duties and responsibilities are below:
Steward:
Reports to:
•The Steward is directly responsible and accountable to the Commissary or Snack Bar Manager on duty, and ultimately accountable to the Captain of the vessel while underway.
Supervises:
•None
Description of Duties:
The Steward operates the cash register, handles cash and assist with food preparation and packaging.
•Perform food preparation duties such as preparing salads, sandwiches, light cooking, frying and packaging prepared foods.
•Stock service areas with supplies and condiments.
•Ensure that food areas are clean and sanitary.
•Operate cash register.
•Collect payments from customers
•Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
•HS diploma or equivalent
•At least two years of food service experience required
•Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's Credential
•Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
•Valid TWIC care or must have completed the enrollment process with TSA
•Good communication skills
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to operate a computer terminal, telephones and standard office equipment.
•The physical evaluation guidelines for employment aboard BPPJ vessels are based on the United States Coast Guard NAVIC 04-08 "Medical and Physical Evaluation Guidelines for Merchant Mariner Credentials.
Salary : $16-$17 an hour
