Mazzella Companies is Hiring a Tax Manager Near Cleveland, OH

Overview

The Tax Manager will manage federal and state income, franchise, sales and use, property tax and unclaimed property compliance and various licensing requirements for Mazzella Companies and consolidated subsidiaries. Research tax issues to provide tax advice to Mazzella Companies and subsidiaries and other related parties. Coordinate state sales tax audits for Mazzella Companies and subsidiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prepare monthly audit reports, monthly and annual tax reports to Mazzella Companies
  • Review and prepare sales and use (S&U), unclaimed property (UP) tax filings
  • Keep updated with current accounting and tax laws and regulations impacting the preparation of S&U, UP tax returns and other compliance requirements
  • Review and prepare federal and state tax schedules required in federal and state income tax returns preparation
  • Review and prepare Mazzella Companies personal property tax renditions in various states
  • Ensure timely payments of personal property taxes. Review business license tax returns and check requests
  • Manage Thomson Reuters software; review additions and disposal updates; reconcile amounts and location with related records, including tooling schedule
  • Coordinate with IT on FAS updates involving tax changes affecting fixed assets in Thompson Reuters
  • Review tax depreciation reports
  • Oversee federal, state, and local income, franchise, sales and use, and property tax audits and notices and discuss issues and claims with external tax CPA and/or taxing authorities
  • Prepare claims for tax refunds, maintain tax record, and prepare routine and special tax reports
  • Coordinate with various departments and affiliates regarding resolution of tax issues and compliance with other federal laws, e.g., 1099 reporting, and other requirements that may be imposed by tax agencies
  • Coordinate internal and external audits related to tax matters
  • Review and prepare reconciliations related to tax accounts
  • Prepare budgets/forecast for tax accounts and other expenses
  • Review the calendar and ensure that all deadlines are addressed timely
  • Attend to queries made by various departments, subsidiaries, or Mazzella Companies
  • Manage the activities of work group members; develop and train staff and provide opportunities for growth and development, by fostering an environment of open, honest communication, teamwork, creativity, and high involvement to improve, productivity and efficiency
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required
  • Qualifications

    Education

    A high school diploma or GED is required; an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related discipline; in the absence of a degree, directly related job experience serving in a financial role, where a number of years and proven knowledge may offset the degree requirement; Master of Business Taxation (MBT) and/or CPA preferred

    Experience & Skills

    • 3-5 years of professional corporate tax and indirect tax experience
    • Accounting experience with “big 4” accounting firm preferred
    • Comprehensive knowledge of deferred tax accounting and other GAAP related to accounting for income taxes
    • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state corporate income, franchise, sales and use, and property tax policies, procedures, and issues
    • Comprehensive knowledge of audits by taxing authorities
    • Comprehensive verbal/written and communication/presentation skills
    • Advanced Excel proficiency
    • Advanced knowledge of taxation issues related to a multinational firm and current developments
    • Advanced knowledge of sales tax return preparation software (Avalara)
