Job Description

Overview

The Desktop Engineer is responsible for the delivery of IT desktop equipment, desktop applications and networking initiatives ensuring strategic alignment, activity prioritization, planning, leading solution evaluation, and overseeing project execution to enable business divisions to generate value through use of IT.

 

Reporting to the VP IT Solutions and Operations, this role is a member of the IT Operations Team and involved in all functions of the IT Organization including strategy, life cycle management, system performance, support, infrastructure, governance, security, budgeting, and vendor management.

The Desktop Engineer provides technical assistance to IT users regarding various hardware and software applications. Their main duties include troubleshooting and diagnosing different technical issues, assessing and understanding user needs and issues and recommending technical fixes to customers.

This person will lead short and long-term initiatives and will be responsible for the development of work plans, timelines, and milestones.

This role is based on a standard work week but may require additional time on holidays, off hours and weekends based on maintenance windows and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves complex desktop end user problems and suggests corrective solutions
  • Prepares and implements desktop logging, reporting, and monitoring programs
  • Designs and implements and IT desktop infrastructure roadmap using the latest technologies and best practices
  • Executes, plans, and implements technical IT infrastructure projects to refresh supported systems
  • Documents processes and procedures for maintenance and support
  • Determines and leverages best practices amongst the IT staff members
  • Offer third level desktop support to all end-users including those in the field and at home
  • Completes Root Cause Analysis where needed and offers corrective action
  • Coordinates with other desktop engineers to resolve technical problems
  • Identifies, documents, and maintains desktop security standards as per IT security policies
  • Manages the administration of enterprise desktop asset management software tools
  • Review and tests deployment updates through System Center Configuration Manager
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required; a CompTIA and MTA certificates are required MCSE preferred. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but in the absence of a degree, directly-related job experience serving in a Desktop Engineering support role, where a number of years and proven knowledge may offset the degree requirements.

 

Experience & Skills:

  • Virtual infrastructure (VMware)
  • Networking equipment (Meraki), cabling and patching systems
  • Reviewing and deploying Operating System, application, and security updates using SCCM and WSUS
  • Completing Windows and active directory upgrades.
  • Managing Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, and Domain Controllers.
  • Enterprise Backup software solutions.
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Automated Desktop Deployment tools (Intune and Autopilot)
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, and their use for managing user and computer objects
  • BitLocker disk encryption
  • Being able to provide outstanding client service, meet high quality standards for services and meet or exceed client expectations. Being proactive in seeking innovative ways in which to help others
  • Having the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and collaborate well in a team environment
  • Possessing excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and presentation
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, drug scree, and E-verify
