Job Summary

The Senior Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating and reviewing external communications materials, serving as a steward of the company’s reputation, ensuring a cohesive narrative and building alignment with internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to the External Communications Manager, this individual will serve as a strategic business partner within the organization, providing external communications expertise and insights to various departments. They will also assist in media relations, providing on-the-ground support as needed and developing various media materials. 

Role and responsibilities

• Write, edit and review external communications materials, including press releases, blog posts, one pagers, backgrounders, talking points and website copy, among others
• Ensure all external communications campaigns and materials create a cohesive narrative
• Provide communications support to various internal and external stakeholders
• Assist on campaigns to bolster our external reputation, including earned media, partnership announcements, integrated marketing communications and others
• Create and maintain an external communications content calendar, including blog posts, social media and other channels
• Work with external agencies as appropriate, ensuring alignment with broader storytelling goals
• Work collaboratively with communications and marketing team to develop and execute a content calendar and strategy
• Build and maintain PR and earned media reports
• Analyze competitor and industry trends and provide insights and recommendations
• Stay abreast of trending industry topics and provide timely updates on relevant press

Qualifications and skills

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or communications 
• 3-5 years of experience in journalism, media relations or communications, automotive experience preferred 
• Demonstrated expertise in journalistic writing and AP Style
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate well and work as part of a team
• Experience creating, analyzing and presenting media reports
• Ability and willingness to to travel up to 25%
• Flexibility and willingness to jump in as needed
