Maven is searching for a Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering team and lead technical decision making at Maven.

As a Staff Software Engineer working at Maven, you will be responsible for building products that will disrupt one of the nation’s largest sectors and bring the trucking industry into the modern age. We are looking for passionate, skilled, entrepreneurially minded engineers who bring fresh perspectives and ideas, have a passion for new technologies, obsess over design and performance, love tackling new and complex problems, and want to deliver great, beautiful products.

Our products require rock-solid backend systems that can scale to large numbers of users as well as elegant and thoughtfully designed web applications to display mission critical data. As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading architecture, owning technical decision making for your team, and enforcing standards and processes across the technology. This position is a fulltime exempt role, and the ideal candidate is based in Pittsburgh, PA or willing to relocate.

What You’ll Be Doing 

• Responsible for leading architecture of the software as well as owning, designing, architecting, and building, scalable, performant distributed systems.
• Leading and owning the technical decision making for your team of Software Engineers.
• Continuously discovering, evaluating, and implementing new technologies and architectures as we grow and our needs change.
• Participating in all steps of the development process, from design to verification, release, and support.
• Building relationships with stakeholders including customers, product managers, and cross-functional partners.
• Mentoring other engineers.
• Working with Engineering Managers in defining strategic direction, planning the roadmap, escalating issues, and synthesizing feedback to ensure team success.
• Advising manager with insights and recommendations to improve the team.
• Improving code structure and architecture in service of testability and maintainability.

More About You 

• Bachelor's degree, Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical discipline.
• 7 years of professional software engineering work experience in both frontend and backend systems.
• Strong architecture and system design skills.
• Excellent coding skills in one or more system languages (Python, Node, java, C , Go, etc).
• Strong experience with various database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, Redis, etc).
• Strong understanding of javascript ES6, HTML, and CSS.
• Proficiency with modern web technologies but understand the fundamentals.
• You have an incredible desire to deliver impactful results every day.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience in technical leadership preferred.

Bonus Points for Having

• An eye for great design and UX.
• Experience with AWS, distributed systems, and micro-service orientated architectures.
• Experience with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Familiarity with the command-line, source control, and testing frameworks.
• Experience working with frameworks and tools such as React, Redux, socket.io and Webpack.
• Experience working with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
