Our studio capabilities range from strategic ideation and insights, creative development, branding and identity, experiential, web design and development, campaigns and content creation, all the way through full-scale production and execution.

About this role: 

MATTE is looking for an experienced and fast-paced person Communications Director with a passion to work within a growing business and brand. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of industry events and media outlets, excellent project management and presentation skills, and the ability to inspire others. As our Communications Director you will work to produce experiences with brand partners, and will work with the Brand and Business Development teams to create new long-term strategic partnerships. You will be part of an integrated team that unites public relations/communications, content, digital, and other creative disciplines to generate a bigger impact. In this role you must thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, start-up type environment while being independent in managing various projects. This role will work to transform MATTE brand and business by way of the strategic roadmaps and productions executed by you and your team. This role initially reports into the Founder. Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities include:

  • Alongside Head of Brand, create integrated and strategic global communications programs with key stakeholders, focused on the advancements we’re making beyond an agency, and as a brand. 
  • Review, approve and ensure consistent internal and external agency messaging across all platforms and markets.
  • Identify potential story angles and draft compelling pitches for MATTE brand.
  • Work with Editorial team to evolve the existing communications model to better scale with the business, and to balance support for run-the-business communications and engaging marketing campaigns.
  • Develop strong cross-functional partnerships with Internal Communications, PR team, and Strategic Response to align on priorities, communication goals, channels strategy, and messaging to get the most employee engagement.
  • Build, cultivate and manage partnerships with press, media and influencers.
  • Secure and manage speaking opportunities at business and advertising industry events for network spokespeople and clients.
  • Oversee content and editorial roles and provide strategic communications guidance to the business and executive leadership team, on overall positioning, and reputational challenges including brand, for the short and long term.
  • Participate in key integrated pitches and new business initiatives with other leads, to unlock significant revenue opportunities
  • Lead presentations/discussions with the clients around strategic ideas, sharing the recommended direction and rationale as to why this is the right approach.
  • Draft media announcements and thought leadership assets.
  • Train and support spokespeople with media and speaking opportunities.
  • Help manage agency relationships.

Quality Control

  • Collaborate with the teams to develop thoughtful and impactful, purpose-based creative solutions across MATTE Brand activations.
  • Create and maintain consistent, high level visuals, standards and specifications.
  • Work strategically and in partnership with internal teams to build, maintain, and improve internal and external processes, workflows, systems, and policies.

What you'll bring:

  • 10 years of experience in PR, communications, marketing or journalism.
  • Proven track record of success in PR and communications, ideally with experience in a global, matrixed organization
  • Impeccable writing skills
  • Skilled at developing strategic communications plans as well as managing tactical
  • Desire to be part of a team looking to transform many areas of a studio
  • Demonstrated ability to influence all levels of leadership
  • Innovative and proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise integrity and sound judgment in complex and ambiguous situations
