Summary

The Maryville College IT Department is a small team committed to providing student-focused technologies and services to our campus community. Our passion is working collaboratively with faculty and staff to identify modern technologies that streamline and elevate their roles in supporting student success.

To that end, we are seeking a like-minded Programmer Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this position is responsible for developing modern integrations, automations, and applications that enhance student and employee interactions with campus systems. This position will also play a key role in our upcoming Student Information System migration, pursuing new opportunities for innovation with modern toolsets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Meeting with stakeholders to identify and scope projects
  • Planning, testing, and implementing automation and integration projects
  • Developing and documenting best practices and maintenance procedures for code lifecycles
  • Staying abreast of new technology trends
  • Assisting with support requests as needed

Regular on-campus attendance is required. To ensure that essential services are provided to the Maryville College community, the employee may be asked to work outside regular working hours as needed. The position will perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities for MC staff.

The position requires strong interpersonal skills, prioritization skills, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of technical aptitude, such as

Experience with:

  • Programming and scripting languages including Python and PowerShell
  • Creating and consuming API web services including REST
  • Code repository and version control systems including Git
  • Cloud services including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Workspace
  • Relational database concepts including SQL

Familiarity with:

  • Frontend and backend development concepts
  • Microsoft Power Platform including Power Automate and Power Apps
  • Microsoft 365 including Teams and SharePoint
  • Automation and orchestration tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Kubernetes
  • JavaScript, JavaScript frameworks, HTML5, and CSS
  • ETL procedures

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university or equivalent work experience. Prior experience in higher education is a plus.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write comprehensive documentation, routine reports, and correspondence. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with both technical and non-technical faculty, staff, and students is critical.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

The ability to attain a valid Tennessee Drivers License within 30 days of hire.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
