Mary's Place is Hiring a Chief Operating Officer Near King County, WA

Description

In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) and the Strategic Leadership Team, the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) provides leadership for all the organization’s financial, infrastructure and operating functions. This position is a member of the executive leadership team and plays an important role in leading strategic and tactical planning processes, plans and projects that support the mission, vision, and values of the organization. The COO has functional accountabilities for all financial management functions including planning, analysis, and budgeting; annual operating planning processes; information technology and all operations functional areas including food services, facilities, transportation, and warehousing.

The COO actively engages in Mary’s Place racial equity work – striving for equitable outcomes and taking responsibility for creating, maintaining, and affirming communities for people of color, immigrants, and refugees, trans and gender-non-conforming people, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions.

This position reports to the CEO and leads a team of functional leaders including the CFO, Operations Director, and IT Director.

This is a full-time, exempt position with the flexibility to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet the demands of the job. The annual salary is $190K- $225K DOE. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership (25%)

Develops and implements a strategy, plans, and projects that ensure the agency infrastructure and operating functions are in place to fulfill the organizational objectives.

· Provide leadership and resources for the implementation and monitoring of the organization’s strategic planning and annual operating plans ensuring a data-based approach to decision-making

· Provide leadership in financial and risk management matters in strategic planning and implementation processes

· Participate on the Executive Leadership Team

· Prepare reporting and presentations for the Board

Operating Infrastructure Leadership (25%)

Provide oversight and leadership for the Operations organization to ensure the agency has all the physical facilities, services, and security necessary to ensure safe, efficient and effective operations and maintenance in all agency facilities.

· Support Operations Director and Operations management team in the setting and achievement of goals and objectives

· Accountable for ensuring all policies and procedures are documented and implemented to ensure safe and sound operations in all agencies locations

· Provide oversight and support for teams and staff working in facilities, transportation, warehousing and food services and partner organization to endure facilities and services are deployed efficiently and effectively to serve the organizations needs

Financial Leadership (20%)

Provide oversight and leadership for the Finance organization to ensure financial management of the agency is accurate, complaint and aligned with organizational objectives.

· Support CFO and Finance team to ensure the accounting and financial systems, policies and procedures are in place and functioning efficiently and effectively

· Manage banking relationships and ensure bank accounts are reconciled timely and accurately

· Ensure financial reporting available and accurate as required for internal and external purposes

· Analyze and present financial statements

· Ensure all tax and compliance reporting is completely timely and accurately

· Work with external auditors to maintain standards, processes, policies and procedures

· Communicate financial standing in numbers and meaning to all stakeholders

Team Leadership and Management (10%)

Provide direction and guidance to the team of leaders that are responsible for developing and executing on plans, goals, and projects across all operating functional areas of the organization. 

· Coach, develop, and support team in growing as leaders

· Set clear expectations and provide direction to team

· Provide structure and process for accountability in each operating function

· Communicate frequently and provide coaching and support in performance of job duties

· Provide personal and professional growth and development opportunities through assignments, projects, and training

Information Technology (10%)

Provide oversight and leadership for the technology needs of the organization.

· Support IT Director and team in their efforts to maintain the technology systems and infrastructure across the organization

· Provide leadership for the IT function and management of internal and external IT resources and partnerships

· Accountable for procurement, operations and maintenance of all technology systems and platforms used across the Agency

· Ensure security procedures and protocols are functioning effectively

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications 

· 10 or more years of experience in executive level leadership or general management roles including the following areas: Operations, Finance, IT

· Bachelor’s degree or four years relevant work experience required; Master’s or other advanced degree preferred

· Prior experience as a member of an executive management team is required

· Prior experience leading a team is required

· Prior non-profit accounting and financial management experience is required

· Prior experience working with a Board of Directors is required

· A strong commitment to social and economic justice and a passion for Mary’s Place’s mission

· Compelling influencing skills, a strong work ethic, impeccable integrity, positive attitude, and strong commitment to working collaboratively

· Superior critical thinking capabilities and experience developing and implementing strategic plans and overseeing major initiatives

· Proficient with accounting systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook)

· Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information

· Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude 

· Exhibits compassion and empathy; works well with people from all ethnic, social, economic and sexual orientation backgrounds 

· Attention to detail, interacting with others in-person and through email, using critical thinking skills to strategize, develop and implement business plans, create, and edit documents, listen and participate verbally at meetings.

· Experience working or volunteering in a shelter environment is a plus

· Excellent oral and written communication skills 

· Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills

· Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships at all levels of an organization 

· Experience advancing an organizational culture into one of inclusivity, equity, and diversity in a large organization or non-profit environment preferred

· Knowledge of Information technology networks, security, and infrastructure preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to converse with and listen to people in many different settings

• Ability to use a computer and telephone, as well as other standard office equipment

• Frequently required to stand, walk, use fingers, hands, and arms

• Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, and/or carry supplies up to 25 pounds

• Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required

• Travel to program sites and meetings outside the site and around the county are necessary

• Ability to work in an environment where there may be animals present, including dogs
