Martin Defense Group is Hiring a Marine Technician Near Honolulu, HI

Overview

Martin Defense Group  a privately-owned defense contractor, is seeking an experienced MarineTechnician. The incumbent will join a group of talented Engineers, Scientist, and Innovators with tremendous top-side potential devoted to solving novel technological problems with national defense implications in the fields of Ocean Engineering, Autonomy, and Naval Architecture among others. Responsibilities

The qualified candidate will be responsible for a wide variety of maintenance, fabrication, and operational tasks at our shipyard location. Duties will include testing support as a deckhand, fabric repair, small fabrication, managing inventory, general machinery maintenance, and vessel maintenance. Ideal characteristics are a strong work ethic, great attitude, excellent communications skills and pays strong attention to details.

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Drop-stitch fabric repair using various bonding techniques (heat and chemical bonds) 
  • At-sea testing support as a deckhand on vessels ranging from 17-70 ft.
  • Small part aluminum fabrication for various R&D programs 
  • Surface preparation, finishing, fairing, grinding and shaping operations using manual and hand power tools. Including but not limited to saws, drills, grinders, sanders and polishers 
  • Lay-up composite materials onto mold surfaces, parts, or existing vessels
  • Carpentry fabrication of shipping boxes and containers 
  • Inspects, maintains, repairs, and cleans marine vessels of all sizes 
  • Conduct regular maintenance on machinery, systems, and automotive vehicles 
  • Shop area maintenance including but not limited to painting, inventory sorting, cleaning 
  • Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment, and machinery 
  • Forklift operations of palletized equipment 
  • Interface with engineers and management to ensure specifications are correct 
  • Consistently be on time for work and meetings to deliver work projects by due dates 
  • Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards 

Qualifications

Qualifications 

  • US Citizenship is required to obtain a federal security clearance and other base access credentials (TWIC, DBIDS).
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required 
  • Boat handling and maintenance experience preferred.
  • Must possess a great attitude and strong work ethic 
  • Must show interest in learning new trade skills in a wide variety of trades 
  • Must possess knowledge of general mechanics of marine vessels 
  • Experienced with a wide spectrum of power and hand tools 
  • Requires excellent communication skills with both supervisors and coworkers 
  • Requires concentration, and attention to detail 
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow occupational safety and health regulations, other state and federal regulations governing the ship repair and Company practices and procedures 
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks and balance priorities
  • The physical demands for this position require continual standing, walking and using fine motor skills for the operation of tools and machinery as well as the ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, noisy, non-climate controlled environment
