MarinHealth Medical Center Leading-Edge Surgical Program

Our new operating suites provide amazing flexibility and enable seamless collaboration for our surgical teams. The suites are extremely spacious, allowing plenty of room for teams to move freely, and for complex equipment to be housed conveniently and securely. Built-in ceiling booms hold sophisticated instruments and technology so it’s ready when needed. Everything is movable so rooms can be assembled into various configurations, based on the procedure and team. The new suites can accommodate traditional surgery, as well minimally invasive interventional and robotic procedures.

Three dual-use interventional suites for electrophysiology, catheterization, and interventional radiology

  • 11 operating rooms with 3 new operating rooms, including 2 equipped for robotic-assisted procedures (daVinci Surgical Robot)
  • New bi-plane technology allows real-time, multi-views of the heart to assist in critical cardiovascular procedures
  • MarinHealth is the ONLY place in the county to offer vascular and open-heart surgery as well as sophisticated spine and brain surgeries

General Summary: 

The Cardiology Medical Assistant, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and Practice Manager, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management. The focus for this role is to assist the Cardiology providers and the prescription refill team with prescription refills, prior authorizations within scope of practice to provide quality patient care. This includes gathering patient information, assessing patient requests, obtaining information required by insurance companies and/or pharmacies to process requests. In addition, this person may support the medical assistants in rooming patients and performing ECGs.  

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required. 
  • Medical Assistant certificate required. Will consider 5 years of recent continuous experience in lieu of certificate
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

Experience:

  • At least two years of related medical assisting experience in a physician’s office or other clinical setting, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Preferred experience in cardiology clinic.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Direct patient care:

  • Support the prescription refill process which includes obtaining prior authorizations for specialty medications.
  • Document all required information in electronic medical record.
  • Communicating with providers, pharmacies and patients to ensure quality patient care.
  • Rooming patients, including obtaining vital signs, obtaining reason for visit, and documenting symptoms their frequency, and severity.
  • Performing ECGs.
  • Obtain all patient information required to meet regulatory obligations.

Communication and correspondence including lab results, prescription management, and referrals:

  • Use electronic medical records and work off “task lists” to complete patient visits or requests.
  • Provides patients with accurate information when answering questions and concerns.
  • Maintains patient records and protects patient confidentiality.
  • Complete referrals accurately and appropriately. 

Maintain patient areas and supplies:

  • Disinfects exam rooms between patients and all patient areas at end of the day.
  • Assist with clinic upkeep, including daily cleaning and supply ordering/inventory.
  • Assist with any medication inventory and appropriate removal of expired medications. 

General:

  • Remains calm and effective in an emergency or in high pressure situations.
  • Collaborate with team members on various ongoing projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all OSHA and safety regulations.
