MarinHealth Medical Center Leading-Edge Surgical Program

Our new operating suites provide amazing flexibility and enable seamless collaboration for our surgical teams. The suites are extremely spacious, allowing plenty of room for teams to move freely, and for complex equipment to be housed conveniently and securely. Built-in ceiling booms hold sophisticated instruments and technology so it’s ready when needed. Everything is movable so rooms can be assembled into various configurations, based on the procedure and team. The new suites can accommodate traditional surgery, as well minimally invasive interventional and robotic procedures.

Three dual-use interventional suites for electrophysiology, catheterization, and interventional radiology

• 11 operating rooms with 3 new operating rooms, including 2 equipped for robotic-assisted procedures (daVinci Surgical Robot)
• New bi-plane technology allows real-time, multi-views of the heart to assist in critical cardiovascular procedures
• MarinHealth is the ONLY place in the county to offer vascular and open-heart surgery as well as sophisticated spine and brain surgeries

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant assists clinicians and other members of the health care team in clinic offices by performing a variety of back office, patient-related tasks and ensuring smooth patient and work flow within the department.

Medical Assistant (MA) Back Office Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
 Direct Patient care:

1. Rooming patients, including obtaining vital signs, obtaining reason for visit, and documenting symptoms their frequency, and severity.
2. Provide courteous and compassionate care.
3. Documents all required information in electronic medical record. This includes meaningful Use data, Pay for Performance data, and ACO related information. (EPIC Experience preferred)
4. Provide injections, immunizations and other patient care services as ordered by the medical provider.
5. Provide assistance during medical procedures.

Communication and correspondence including lab results, prescription management, and referrals:

1. Use electronic medical records and work off “task lists” to complete patient visits or requests.
2. Recognize urgent medical needs and triage care appropriately.
3. Provides patients with accurate information when answering questions and concerns.
4. Maintains patient records and protects patient confidentiality.
5. Complete referrals accurately and appropriately.

Maintain patient areas and supplies:

1. Disinfects exam rooms between patients and all patient areas at end of the day.
2. Assist with clinic upkeep, including daily cleaning and supply ordering/inventory.

Medical Assistant (MA) Front Office Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care:

1. Answer telephones in a cheerful manner.
2. Schedule appointments.
3. Take messages for patients using electronic medical records.
4. Greet and check in patients.
5. Collect co-payments.
6. Address patient requests and inquires.
7. Resolve patient concerns.
8. Process insurance issues (i.e., verifications and authorizations) and assist patients in understanding insurance plans.
9. Return calls as necessary
10. Various assigned administrative processes

Medical Assistant (MA) Qualifications:

1. One year experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical practice preferred.
2. Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program required.
3. CPR Certification required.
4. High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
5. Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
6. Knowledge of medical terminology.
7. Experience with, and proficiency in, electronic medical records. Use of EPIC software a plus.
8. Computer proficiency: Microsoft office.
9. Bi-lingual in Spanish desired.
